Atomfall: How To Solve The Church Murder | Investigation Guide

April 4, 2025 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Put on your detective hat, because we’re going to solve a murder together.

The Murder in the Church Investigation unlocks as soon as you discover the crime scene in Atomfall — and if you want to solve the case, you’ll need to collect proof. It can be solved instantly if you’ve got the right piece of evidence and doesn’t even require a long investigation. It’s all worth it for a special reward crate and a free Atomic Battery. Learn where to find the quest and how to solve it the best way possible below.

You can also just shoot the Vicar and take his key. Weirdly there are no downsides for doing this — Protocol won’t permanently fight you. There are lots of instances where you can fight with civilians in interiors and Protocol won’t try to stop you. It isn’t even considered a crime. So, if you want to easily end the dispute, just shoot the Vicar and the witness. He’s carrying the key so you can get the same rewards either way.

Murder in the Church | Investigation Guide

To begin the investigation, enter the large church near the village green in Wyndham Village. It’s at the top of the village, near the Interchange entrance, and it’s difficult to miss. The building is called St. Katherine’s Church. Go inside and talk to Vicar McHenry to begin.

  • Read the note on the dead body pinned to her chest — it suggests the victim was going to visit Mereview Hotel. The hotel is found near the Casterfell Woods entrance in the northwest of the village map.
  • Enter the small building to the left of Mereview Hotel and find the note “Recent Movements” on the desk. There are instructions showing movement — you’ll need to follow the path or just go to the ruins on the west edge of the village map, up the hills. There’s a cellar here you can explore.

Enter the Brewery Cellar — you’ll find a Molotov Cocktail crafting recipe pinned to the wall here. Deal with the rat infestation to clear the area and give you time to explore.

  • Inside the Brewery Cellar, go past the desk with brewery equipment and look left. There’s a hole you can crawl into. Collect the note called “Kill The One They Call Maisie” on the desk. After finding the note, go to the village green to learn more.

Go to the Village Shop at the main square and talk to Morris Wick. You can agree to keep his secret in exchange for a Crafting Manual and a Training Stimulant. After that, you can go frame the Vicar by talking to Captain Sims and gaining the trust of Protocol.

Or you can talk to Vicar McHenry directly once you have the letter that implicates Morris Wick. You’ll get a key to the chest on the second floor of the church which contains an Atomic Battery. If you need one, follow that path and reveal the truth.
