Are you holding on to your Nintendo Switch consoles for another year? You’re in luck! A bunch of new video games are coming out for the system throughout 2025. Here are a few you should keep tabs on.
#31 Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars
As we start this list, it’s important to note that you’ll see plenty of remasters, remakes, and “Definitive Editions” here. Why? Well, the Nintendo Switch is both legendary and infamous for giving older games life, and due to its portability, many people love taking these older games on the go. To start off this trend, we present to you the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster.
These two classic RPGs are some all-time titles from Konami, and you’ll get to see them like never before. With two original stories set in the same land, you’ll go and attempt to save the world while gathering allies and gaining insights into how everything is connected.
#30 Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land
What is it with certain games having super long titles? Yes, we know that’s a “Japanese trope,” but sometimes it gets really long in the tooth to say some of these names! Take Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, for example. That’s a really long title, and you could’ve shortened it without losing the name’s impact.
In the game, you’ll play Yumia, a character who seeks to find out what happened to a lost kingdom and learn the truth about why Alchemy is now banned in her homeland.
With loyal friends at her side, they’ll venture forth to return the land’s lost memories and ensure a bright future.
#29 Lunar Remastered Collection
See? We told you there would be plenty of remasters on this list. In the case of the Lunar Remastered Collection, these are two classic RPGs from the early 1990s, and they haven’t been playable for a long time, so you can see why having them on the Nintendo Switch is a cool thing.
Each game tells a unique story. The first follows Alex on his quest to become a Dragonmaster and overthrow a mysterious emperor who tries to take over the land! The sequel, meanwhile, features a group of friends trying to help one of their own find a goddess before the destruction of their world!
Good luck with all that!
#28 Ratatan
Rhythm games on Nintendo platforms are nothing new, as The Big N has embraced this kind of creativity in the past. In the case of Ratatan, it’s the spiritual successor to a certain franchise that blends both rhythm games and rogue-like titles. In your side-scrolling adventure, you’ll endeavor to time actions to the beat so that you can best control your army, gain allies, and defeat enemies that come across your path!
A unique world awaits you here, and that means you’ll need to keep your eyes and ears open to see how best to progress. Don’t be afraid to tap your foot or hands to help keep rhythm!
#27 The House of the Dead 2: Remake
How about now we go back in time to a much simpler age of killing zombies? We’re talking about the arcade video games that helped make people better zombie killers. One of the best of them was The House of the Dead series, which was an on-rails shooter that had you killing zombies left and right and up and down.
Now, there’s going to be The House of the Dead 2: Remake, which promises to not just go and improve the graphics but enhance the overall experience. So, if you played the original on arcade, this game is definitely one to pay attention to.
#26 Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle
One of the “cardinal sins” of a zombie-style movie is going alone into a place that surely has monsters but thinking you can make it out alive. Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is a prequel to a certain hit title and features you as a special agent heading into a special research center. But what’s so “special” about it? Oh, you’ll find out soon enough.
Thankfully, your group in Hades has equipped you with special weapons to take on any threat, which is good because you’ll NEED them to fight off the terrors while you attempt to learn the truth of what happened in this facility.
Do you think you can survive what’s coming? In 2025 you’ll be able to try your best on the Nintendo Switch platform.
#25 Star Overdrive
There are numerous sci-fi games that have plenty of sci-fi-style worlds for you to visit. However, in Star Overdrive, you’ll get the chance to explore a world while riding a hoverboard. Who wouldn’t want to have fun doing all that? We’re just saying.
The plot focuses on you getting a distress call, and heading to a remote planet to see what’s happening. The planet itself is full of things to race over, bound off, and explore. So, take your time and see what this place has to offer.
Oh, but it’s not all fun and games. You’ll have to use special abilities and combos to take on foes and go deeper into the planet.
#24 Hollow Knight: Silksong
Do we have a true update on Hollow Knight: Silksong? No. Are we EVER going to get an update on this title? We honestly don’t have an answer for that. Sorry. This game has been talked about by fans for a LONG time, simply because we know it’s been in development for years, it’s following up one of the best Metroidvania games ever created, and fans have wanted it for a long time.
Whenever it does release, it’ll be one that gives fans not only a new knight to play with but a new world to explore and new adventures to be had. Many will likey get this game on the Switch because of its portability, but we just don’t know when it’ll arrive.
#23 The Eternal Life of Goldman
It’s always nice when you see a game embrace what came before and try to recreate the styles of the past. The Eternal Life of Goldman does that by giving you precise “frame-by-frame animation” to help it look as great as possible while also invoking the classic platforming style that one would expect from a game like it.
The title is all about a being, you, who goes to an archipelago on a mission to kill a deity. Why would they do that? You’ll have to play to find out. The curious thing is that while everyone on the archipelago believes in it, no one has ever seen it up close.
#22 Carmen Sandiego
Are you ready to save the day as one of the greatest thieves around? Naturally, we’re talking about the one and only Carmen Sandiego! She’ll get a new game in 2025 that is a tribute to all that came before while also paying homage to the new version that is on Netflix. As such, you’ll travel around the world and attempt to capture the various criminals of the organization VILE. You’ll need to use your thief and investigative skills to get the job done and show that no one is better than Carmen Sandiego.
The world is your oyster, so go and ensure no one steals it.
#21 Little Nightmares III
If you’re familiar with the first two games in this series or have played them before, then you know what’s in store with Little Nightmares III. The title will put you as two new characters, Low and Alone, and set you within the terrifying world known as Nowhere. Trapped within The Spiral, your only choice for survival is to work your way through it and see how you can get past the monsters that lurk within. It won’t be easy, but at least you’ll have someone at your side throughout.
In fact, this is the first game in the series’ history to allow for true co-op! So, use that to your advantage to get out!
#20 Solarpunk
If you’re looking for a survival game that is a bit kinder to players and is more about setting up a life than fighting others to keep alive, you’ll want to try Solarpunk. The game puts you on an archipelago of floating islands and then asks you and your friends to build a life upon them. The good news is that there is plenty of energy to use for your machinations via the sun and water.
So, you can build up what you need on one island, then get onto your ship and head over to the next island to see what you can make there!
#19 Mandragora
Imagine a version of the world where humanity has emphatically given up on itself. There are monsters everywhere, and people allow them to live and work hard to keep them hidden from their view. In Mandragora, that is the world that you now reside in. However, it’s also the world that you’ll fight to change once the night comes.
One of the game’s key elements is that you’ll have many options available to you as you attempt to rid the world of these beasts. How you handle your powers will be as important as how you handle the potential allies and rivals you’ll encounter on your journey.
#18 King of Meat
Before you say anything, we know that this game’s title will bring up a lot of jokes in you. We get it. We’re not going to say any of them, but we get it. Let’s just focus on the game itself, okay?
In King of Meat, you’ll be part of a game show where your goal is to conquer the other players, solve puzzles and work your way through insane dungeons. That alone would entice many of you to play it. However, you can also take things from a creative perspective and create your own dungeons and share them online so that others can attempt to beat your wit.
#17 Tales of Graces f Remastered
Are you ready for a classic RPG adventure to get a new lease on life? Tales of Graces f Remastered is an adventure that stars three children who are on a mission to save both their homes and their futures. A single promise binds them all together, and they will do all that they can to fulfill that promise and see that things are restored to how they should be.
Aside from the gripping story and powerful combat mechanics, the game has improved graphics and multiple quality-of-life features to help new players or those who weren’t able to beat it before.
Your adventure awaits!
#16 Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate
Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate, yes, that’s a really long name, is an anime-style beat ’em up mixed with fighting game tactics.
In this case, you’ll choose a character and then wander through the various districts of Tokyo, attempting to defeat a phantom and his goons. Along the way, you’ll meet new characters, get to power up your moves, and even team up with friends!
The game has multiple modes to choose from, and there are plenty of ways to power up your characters so they can do what you want. Plus, be on the lookout for Easter Eggs!
#15 Grit and Valor: 1949
Have you ever noticed that there are plenty of games that take real events like World War II and then spin them into an “alternate reality” take just for the heck of it? Grit and Valor: 1949 is one such title. In the game, you’ll be put in a dieselpunk world where World War II lasted far longer than it should’ve, and you’ll need to use the mechanized forces at your command to finally turn the tide and bring victory for your side.
It won’t be easy, and you’ll have to penetrate enemy territory to deliver the final blow to their forces. But, if you plan wisely, you can make it.
#14 Fatal Run 2089
Yes, if you look into Fatal Run 2089 a bit, you’ll find that this game was made in part by Atari. Bet you didn’t see that coming on this list. True to its name, Atari is delivering a rather old-school experience while placing the game far into the future.
Long story short, the Earth has been wrecked, radiation is everywhere, and some factions have risen to power. Naturally, you need to stop them so that humanity can at least attempt to get “back to normal.”
To do so, you’ll race in incredibly violent battles that will put you against those bent on destroying you. Outfit your car with weapons and abilities so you can take them out first.
#13 Warpaws
So, you want to play a war game that doesn’t feature humans, but instead involves dogs and cats? Sure, we can make that happen for you. That’s a weird request, but Warpaws is a game that invokes that desire. You’ll find yourself picking a side in the neverending war between dogs and cats, all the while being set in a World War II aesthetic.
But don’t let the look fool you, this game is deep, and it’s been designed to be fun to play no matter how you take to the battles themselves. Be loud and bold, or be sneaky and conniving. As long as you win, that’s what matters.
#12 Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
In Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, you’ll find yourself on a ruined island, and the only way to save it is to both build it up in the present and travel to the past to fix it. The more you travel back and forth, the more your options open up!
Plus, characters from past entries will pay you a visit! So, if you’ve been looking for the next entry in the series, here it is! Oh, and since you can play this on Switch, you can literally take your fantasy life on the go and enjoy it anywhere!
#11 Mouse: P.I. for Hire
Don’t panic because of the image that you just saw. Mouse: P.I. for Hire is intentionally a game that puts itself in the “rubber hose cartoon” style of decades past. That’s one of the things that helps separate this shooter from the others on this list, not to mention numerous other games in general.
Anyway, in the game, you’ll play a P.I. who has to go up against numerous shady characters to help someone in need. Everything about the game is animated to feel like an old-school cartoon, just with some extra violence tacked onto it.
If you’re feeling the need for some nostalgia, this is the game for you.
#10 Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game
There have been multiple Lord of the Rings games over the years which have provided numerous experiences to fans of all ages, not to mention multiple genres to see the story through. In Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, you’ll get to participate in arguably one of the most cozy and fun takes of the series.
After all, you’re not going to war or being part of a Fellowship; you’re just being a Hobbit in the Shire! Build your home, cook some food, interact with your neighbors and live a life full of happiness and Hobbit joy.
#9 Mio: Memories in Orbit
What would you do if you woke up in an unfamiliar place and yet realized that the world around you was slowly shutting down? In Mio: Memories in Orbit, you’ll take the role of Mio, who finds itself upon The Vessel. This ship has crashed upon a world and is on the verge of a permanent shutdown. You can’t let that happen!
There are many mysteries within this place, including what happened to the ship in the first place, where are the caretakers that were supposed to maintain The Vessel, and more!
As you progress, you’ll learn more clues about the ship and yourself and see what the true point of it all is.
#8 Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
We could talk a lot about Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, including how it was rather nonchalantly revealed on a forum of all things before later getting a trailer, or how it’ll be narrated by Gwendoline Christie. However, we’ll take the high road and let the series’ legacy speak for itself.
For 20+ years, this franchise has been one of the best worldbuilding titles mixed with strategy ever. While it naturally had its highs and lows, the game reinvented itself once again with its 6th entry and blew people away with how great it was. So now imagine how far they’ll go for the 7th entry!
#7 Capcom Fighting Collection 2
2024 was a big year for nostalgia, whether you liked it or not, but one of the key releases was Capcom coming through in the clutch to bring back its crossovers with Marvel and put numerous classic games into one collection for modern consoles. It was such a hit that they didn’t even wait that long before announcing the Capcom Fighting Collection 2!
So, what’s the difference between that one and this one? The name should be a giveaway, but this second collection features multiple titles from Capcom’s crossovers with SNK while also featuring numerous SNK games!
When the collection drops, you’ll have many fights ahead of you!
#6 The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-
If you thought your life was rough, you have nothing on Takumi Sumino. He was just living his life until he was forced to transfer to an academy that is anything but basic! What do we mean by that? That’s simple: There are monsters attacking the academy! If Takumi wants to survive this, he has to unite his fellow “classmates” and protect his place for 100 days!
While that might seem simple at first, the enemies will get tougher as each day passes, and not everyone on your squad will make it to the end!
Fight with all you have to survive, or else, everything is lost!
#5 Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution
Shantae is a gaming character that has been around for quite some time. However, she has had a few ups and downs over the years, and one of the biggest downs was the “lost title” known as Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution! If the name isn’t enough of a giveaway, the title was made for the Game Boy Advance but was never fully released. Thus, it was truly “lost to time.”
However, time has moved on, and because of that, the game has been fully remastered! That means you can enjoy this title in all its pixel glory and help Shantae defeat that nasty Risky Boots before Sequin Land falls into her clutches!
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
It almost feels like a dream, doesn’t it? We first heard about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in 2017, when the Nintendo Switch had its first E3 presentation. Nintendo did the teaser, which was just a logo at the time, to let fans know that their voices had been heard and that Samus Aran was coming back. The irony, of course, was that after that teaser, the development of the title hit many obstacles, and Retro Studios had to return to make the game what it was supposed to be.
While we’ve only seen one trailer, all signs point to this being a true follow-up to the original trilogy, and that’s why fans are so excited.
#3 Professor Layton and The New World of Steam
He’s back! Yes, it’s true, Professor Layton and The New World of Steam will bring back the esteemed, pun intended, puzzle solver to explore an all-new mystery in an all-new land! Well, new to him, at least. After all, Professor Layton is summoned to a unique steam-powered version of America by his old assistant Luke, who needs help with a mystery that he can’t solve on his own.
With new settings and characters to explore, not to mention new puzzles to solve, long-time fans of the franchise will feel right at home as they look for the answers in places both big and small!
Shall we solve a mystery?
#2 Pokémon Legends: Z-A
It’s honestly a bit surprising that we haven’t heard more about Pokémon Legends: Z-A by now, and yet, the game was touted as coming out to Switch, so we’ll maintain hope for its eventual release.
Based on what we know, the title will be set within the Kalos region, within Lumiose City. You’ll be part of a “redevelopment plan” that’ll help bring people and Pokemon together like never before. That’s right. The whole game will be set within the city, which means many questions are left to be answered.
One of the big questions is about the legendary Pokemon Zygarde, who is confirmed to make a big splash in the game. Hopefully, a new trailer arrives soon.
#1 Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition
Yes, as we finally reach our final entry, there is only one game that we can talk about here: Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Why is it #1? Simply put, it’s the game that gamers have been asking for since the franchise slowly got built up on the Nintendo Switch.
This was the legit lone entry that hadn’t been ported to the Switch, and no one knew why! Now, we know that they did it because they wanted to save the “best port for last.”
A vast sci-fi planet awaits you in this game as you learn the truth about the colony known as New Los Angeles while trying to save everyone in it.
