Are we looking for some new third-person games? We have you covered. In this list, we will highlight some of our most anticipated games coming out in the 2025 calendar year. Don’t look at these games in a particularly ranked order. Instead, these are just some games we can’t wait to get our hands on.
#27 Hyper Light Breaker
Hyper Light Drifter was a huge hit, and while the developers opted to return back into the universe, Hyper Light Breaker is not connected to the previous game storyline. Instead, it’s set in the same universe but will tell a new storyline for players. Likewise, we’re getting a third-person game this time, with players able to connect with friends online.
This installment will take players to Overgrowth, a land forgotten in the Hyper Light world. Here you’re on a journey to overthrow the Abyss King, but you can expect plenty of enemies to fight and puzzles to solve. Build up your character so that they’re ready for the fight ahead!
#26 Gothic 1 Remake
The original Gothic title came out in 2001 believe it or not (yep, we’re all old, deal with it). It was successful then and got both sequels and spinoffs made for it.
But now, a new studio has been made in order to not just remake the title, but rebuild it from the ground up and expand on what the original title did.
In the game, a kingdom is under siege by orcs, and a desperate move is made to try and get the ore needed to make powerful weapons. But the prisoners tasked with getting the ore mutiny, and a deal is to be made…or it would…if a certain person didn’t arrive to change everything…
#25 Ark 2
If you’re looking for a deep fantasy experience that’ll give you many layers to the gameplay while also testing your ability to survive, then ARK 2 is what you’ll want next year.
Following up on the acclaimed title, the sequel puts you on a brand-new primal planet where nothing is as it should be. People and dinosaurs are all around, working together and fighting for dominance. Your mission is to figure out what happened to you, how you got there, and how you can get out—all the while saving the people of this world before all life is lost.
But don’t worry! Vin Diesel will be there to help.
#24 Towers of Aghasba
When you think about various “worldbuilding” titles, you typically don’t have to worry about the world itself outside of where you build things and the resources you mine to keep things going. However, in Towers of Aghasba, you’ll be tasked with minding both people and the planet to ensure life goes on.
Specifically, you’ll learn to grow villages and support the people while also tending to the numerous ecosystems of the island you call home. As you traverse the island and grow upon it, you’ll learn more about its history and how it affects everything around you.
Build the villages you want and customize everything you see to fit your style and needs.
#23 ARC Raiders
ARC Raiders is very much a co-op shooter where you must work together in order to survive.
You play as a group of raiders on a planet that has a robot problem. By that, we mean that there are robots constantly dropping from the sky with the intent to wipe out you and your whole squad. You’ll need to load up and stick together in order to survive. Don’t go off on your own, that’ll only get you killed faster.
When you’re not fighting these beings from the sky, you’ll go and explore the world, find new items and artifacts to help you in your fight, and learn more about where you are.
How long you survive in this game is very much up to you.
#22 Ashfall
Are you ready to search for the Core of Creation? We certainly hope so if you’re aiming to play Ashfall. The game takes numerous references from Eastern culture and then throws that inspiration into a wasteland of post-apocalyptic nature. Your job is to wade through the many areas of the world and see what you can find while searching for the mythical Core of Creation.
The good news is that you’ll have plenty of options for how to play the title. Just in terms of shooting, you’ll have several kinds of playstyles to suit your method of play. Go in big, or be stealthy and wipe out foes.
Plus, you can team up with other players you find to make the experience more enjoyable.
#21Chrono Odyssey
From an odd creature title to a potentially genre-defining MMORPG, let’s talk about Chrono Odyssey. The title is powered by Unreal Engine 5 to deliver cutting-edge graphics that will show off the world of Setera like nothing else out there.
While the world might seem like your typical MMORPG fair, you’ll soon realize how much it’s not. The timeline of this world is clashing with others, causing multiple threats to appear and challenges warriors like yourselves. You’ll need to fight your way through this world and figure out how to stop these contradictions from happening.
What will you make of yourself in this MMORPG?
#20 Convallaria
There are still very few details about Convallaria outside of it being a third-person shooter. However, based on the game’s trailer and the push it’s getting from Sony, it has the potential to be something special.
Based on what we see, you’ll be able to work your way through a deep fantasy world while also wielding impressive sci-fi weaponry. The gameplay is also tailored to those who want to play in groups versus being alone against enemies.
There are also teases to a deep story involving a young woman, as well as “crashing through realities” to face numerous threats. We’ll know more when Sony wants to talk about it.
#19 Phantom Blade Zero
Here’s another title that could be revolutionary in its own right, should the quality hold. Phantom Blade Zero impressed many people when it showed off its bleak world and intense gameplay loop. A mix of martial arts and weapon play awaits gamers, and it’s all set in a dark world where the protagonist has only 66 days to live and complete their journey.
Based on certain trailers, the game appears to be a semi-open-world title that will feature intense boss fights and a cinematic art style.
What other secrets the world holds will be up for gamers to discover when they get it on PS5 or PC.
#18 Sniper Elite: Resistance
There are numerous third-person shooter titles out there, but with Sniper Elite: Resistance, you’re not just shooting endless enemies as you attempt to achieve a goal. Instead, you’re a key member of a resistance during World War II, and your shots are meant to help cripple the German forces, one bullet at a time.
The game’s story focuses on a deadly weapon that the Germans have developed that, if put into use, could guarantee them victory in the war! Your sniper skills will be put to the test as you infiltrate German encampments and seek out the people you need to kill.
Make every shot count, the world literally depends on it!
#17 Directive 8020
They say that in space, no one can hear you scream, but what if you’re within a colony ship in space? Wouldn’t that change the dynamic? In Directive 8020, the latest episode of a certain horror anthology, you are part of a colony craft that heads to a new planet where humanity might be able to survive.
However, everything goes wrong when the ship crash lands, and you soon find out that an alien threat has infected your crew! With its imitation skills, it can become any crew member, making every decision potentially life-threatening!
Will you be able to survive this deep space threat?
#16 God Save Birmingham
Most zombie apocalypse games take place in the modern day, but God Save Birmingham is a different story. This third-person survival game will have you attempting to stave off a plague that is transforming everyone around you in Birmingham, England, back in the 14th century.
That alone makes things much different from other titles, as you’ll have to use the century’s technology to survive, which won’t be easy. One of the game’s key elements is not just fighting off monsters but growing and gathering food so you can keep your body strong.
Do what must be done to ensure your survival, or else become part of the zombie horde!
#15 Eternal Strands
Are you ready to use some magic and might to reclaim your people’s homeland? If so, get ready for Eternal Strands, as that is the quest your character, Brynn, will go on. The good news for her is that she has plenty of abilities to help take down the foes she faces.
One of the things the team at Yellow Brick Games made sure to enforce in the gameplay is the ability to use the environment to your advantage. You can use trees as projectiles or as shields, depending on the scenario you’re in, among other reactions that you can unleash.
So be smart, use what’s around you, and do what’s right for your people.
#14 The Relic: First Guardian
The land you once called home is not what it used to be. The great relic that protected the land was destroyed, and through that act, darkness swept over the land and its people, thrusting them both into the void. You are the last hope to bring back what was lost. As its guardian, you must seek out the shattered pieces of the relic and bring them back together so that peace and light can once again endure.
With a unique character crafting system, you’ll use runes to increase your character’s power. Build them the way you want so that your homeland may return to what it once was.
#13 WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers
Welcome to the Ming Dynasty! This period of history was known for many things, but in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, you’ll get an alternative look at how things might have gone down. For example, the land has been infected with a plague, and that plague is causing people to turn into monsters.
That’s where you come in. You’re a “pirate warrior” who has lost her memories and must go through the land of Shu to regain them and figure out who you truly are. The twist is that you also have the disease that is creating the monsters within you. Use it to your advantage to unlock new powers and lay waste to those in front of you.
#12 Killer Bean
You are a bean. Not just that, you are a KILLER bean, and after being betrayed by those you worked for, you’ll make it your mission to get payback on them in the most epic way possible! Yes, this is really the story behind this game.
The twist with this third-person shooter, though, is that it has a big roguelike element to it. Specifically, if you play the game and beat its campaign, then start over, the campaign will be entirely different the second time around.
That means that everything you just went through will be fresh the next time and the time after that! That’s near-limitless playthroughs of action and enjoyment!
#11 Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone
Have you noticed how many gaming franchises focus on Chornobyl at one point or another? Seriously, there are a lot of them. Anyway, in Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone, you’ll once again become a “planewalker” seeking a highly valuable material for your home planet. However, upon entering “the zone,” you become trapped there, and you’re not sure why.
What you are sure of is that there are plenty of monsters within this place looking to kill you. Do what you need to so that you can come out alive and get the truth while you’re at it.
Your character is defined by the choices you make, so be who you think you need to be to survive!
#10 Star Overdrive
Third-person open-world games are almost a dime a dozen in today’s gaming age, so you need something to set you apart from the pack. In the case of Star Overdrive, that would be you not only going to a strange alien world to learn the truth behind a distress signal but also having an epic hoverboard that you can use to ride all over the place.
Oh, but don’t worry, that’s not all you’re doing in the game. You’ll face plenty of foes on this planet and have to mix and match styles, powers, and weapons to get the job done.
It’s a big world out there, so see where you can go with it!
#9 Rooted
When a deadly bacteria wipes out most of humanity, those who survived must do whatever they can to endure. In Rooted, you’ll become one of those survivors. The world isn’t as simple as “the infected and the not,” as the entirely world has been filled with the bacteria, and some areas are more concentrated with it than others.
You’ll have to take risks and explore places like abandoned cities to get the resources needed to make it another day. Just know that there are other survivors out there, and they won’t take kindly to you more times than not.
Build, gather, survive, and don’t let this world take you down.
#8 Hell is Us
A civil war is consuming your country, but that is just the beginning of everything that is going on in Hell is Us. You see, there is something…else…going on. There are beings popping up that can withstand your modern weapons, so you must be careful with how you confront them.
The game puts a heavy emphasis on exploration, and that means you’ll have to wander through dark areas to see what lurks within. You’ll have no guide outside of your intuition. So let’s hope that doesn’t get you killed!
What is the truth behind these chimeras? Will you even live long enough to find out?
#7 Ertugrul of Ulukayin
While we don’t know exactly how to pronounce Ertugrul of Ulukayin, we can tell you that this is a game that’s about a man looking for his brother after his home was invaded, and learning that he has a much bigger role to play in saving humanity.
This world is much darker and more corrupt than you would think, and that means you must be careful as you work with your friends to stop it and learn the truth about your brother and beyond.
You can be the hope this world needs, but only if you’re able to survive it long enough to shine a light.
#6 The Sinking City 2
If you’re familiar with the original game in this series, you’ll be prepared for what’s coming in The Sinking City 2. You’ll brave the depths and decrepit nature of Arkham, a city full of monsters and secrets that you need to unravel as best you can.
Oh, but there’s more than just monsters within this place. The people here are just as dangerous as they worship the occult and want nothing more than to let the monsters win. Wield numerous weapons of a magical nature and good old engineering to take them down and not let the city consume you, too.
Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the game looks better than ever before.
#5 Dune: Awakening
Here’s a franchise that has been hitting the gaming space rather hard recently, and for good reason. Dune: Awakening will take you to the world of Arrakis and have you shape your own story however you desire.
The game can do that because it’s an MMO! You’ll choose the race of being you want to be and then wander the sands in an attempt to find what you need so you can become what you were destined to be! That means you can find characters from the legendary stories and explore locations tied closely to the lore.
How will your journey affect the world? You’ll find out soon!
#4 Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater
They say that every war starts with a single action or mission. In Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater, you’ll get to relive the true origins of the Metal Gears and the people who set the world on a never-ending path of war.
The remade title brings you back into the skin of Naked Snake, who is tasked with doing a stealth mission of great importance. However, when that mission goes awry and new superweapons are unveiled, he’ll have to unravel the conspiracy before him, and take out those at the top of it.
But when he meets his old mentor, everything will change.
#3 Fable
By this point, you know what the Fable series is all about. After all, the franchise has been around for many years in various forms. The reboot is meant to invoke what the original trilogy was like, while also living up to the purpose and potential that it never fully mastered.
You’ll become a character in Albion who gets to decide their own fate! With all sorts of legends to live up to, you’ll carve your path with sword and sorcery to see what kind of story you want told about you.
Plus, familiar characters from the past will show up on your journey! Be sure to say hello to them.
#2 Monster Hunter Wilds
Here’s another franchise that you likely know all about regarding its gameplay and style. Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest version of Capcom’s beloved monster-killing series, and it’s only getting bigger and better with improved graphics and gameplay mechanics.
Once again, you’ll be part of a monster-hunting guild and set out to complete quests to take on massive beasts to help the people of the world.
Not only can you hunt monsters with various weapons, but you can team up with other players to try and even the odds in your favor. No matter what, you’ll want to upgrade your armor and weapons to handle the bigger monsters that come your way.
#1 Grand Theft Auto VI
Easily one of the most anticipated games of 2025, Grand Theft Auto VI aims to live up to the sales and expectations that its predecessor dropped on it, all the while updating one of the most iconic locations in series history.
That’s right, you’re heading back to Vice City, but it’s one set in the modern day. That means you’ll encounter all manner of weird people on your quest to the top.
With a unique duo of protagonists, including the series’ first female protagonist, you’ll have a whole city to run through and beyond so you can get what you feel you deserve.
Have fun, everyone.
