Remembrance Duplication is one of the most important features in Elden Ring and one that’s impossible to miss in the base game. Exploring the vast fields of the Lands Between, you’ll find many Walking Mausoleums – giant enemies made of rock and soil with a literal structure on top. Destroy the crystals to bring them down, and Tarnished players can copy a single Remembrance. In Elden Ring boss souls are called Remembrances, and there’s a whole lot more to earn in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Why copy Remembrances? Because each Remembrance can be traded for a powerful boss weapon or spell. Each Remembrance has two choices – and some even have three – so you can’t get them all unless you make copies with the Remembrance Duplication feature. We can’t miss out on amazing weapons like a giant wilted flower, right? Luckily for everyone, there are three new Remembrance Duplication spots in the Realm of Shadow, and they’re very easy to miss. If you want to copy some of the new boss souls you’ll earn in the expansion, you’ll want to track down all three duplication altars.
#1 Finger Ruins of Rhia Duplication Altar
The first altar we found is in the far southeast of the map and is only accessible from an area called the Finger Ruins of Rhia. If you’ve unlocked this area already, you’ll want to start from Site of Grace at the south ridge of the strange ruins, then travel east along the cliff walls to a high area. The altar is a strange coffin with a corpse resting on top. Interacting with it will let you choose one Remembrance – this can be used for any Remembrance in your inventory, so both base game and DLC boss souls can be copied here. The same goes for the Walking Mausoleums in the main game.
If you haven’t found the southern finger ruins yet, you’ll need to reach the Cerulean Coast. To access this area, start from the Castle Front Site of Grace and travel southeast up the mountain path to reach the top of the plateau. Continue south until you find the Dragon’s Pit optional dungeon. Reach the bottom and defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man – this leads to an exit, giving you access to the Jagged Peaks region. Instead of traveling toward the peaks, go south at the small pool of water where a Drake spawns. To the south you’ll find the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, but that isn’t what’s important. Further south you’ll reach Charo’s Hidden Grave – an area with lots of red foliage. Along the cliffs, look down for giant stone coffins you can jump down to. Using the coffins, you’ll finally be able to access the Cerulean Coast.
We’re now deep enough to reach the Finger Ruins of Rhia. At the Cerulean Coast, go east to the large beach covered in Fingercreepers, and use the crashed stone coffin to access the spooky Finger Ruins area. From the Site of Grace, you’ll just need to follow the road to the right to reach the first coffin and make a remembrance. Make sure to copy those DLC remembrances first!
#2 Finger Ruins of Dheo Duplication Altar
The second altar is located much, much later in the game. You’ll need to reach the Shadow Keep area in the north and unlock the ‘O Mother!’ gesture before you can access this section of the map. Like before, we’ll start with the location, then get into more detail to actually reach this section of the map. The Duplication Altar is near the Fingerstone Hill Site of Grace. Travel down the hill to the southeast and look for the coffin on a small green hill off the coast, guarded by a large Fingercreeper. If you go onto the strange gray soil, you’ve gone too far.
Now let’s rewind and talk about how to reach the northern finger ruins. This is one of the most secret areas of the map, so getting here isn’t easy. You’ll need to progress through Castle Ensis to the north of the starting area, defeat Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight, then travel further north to the Shadow Keep. Defeat the Golden Hippopotamus at the entrance, then navigate the keep until you reach the Specimen Storehouse sub-area. This is the largest area of the keep, and you’ll need to move up to the Storehouse, Back Section to progress – from that Site of Grace, go up the ladder and stairs, then look to the right to find an optional path to the Storehouse Loft. From here, you can ride the lifts back down through another passage on the exterior of the tower, leading to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate.
Ahead of the back gate, you’ll encounter the Commander Gaius boss. You don’t need to fight him to reach the duplication altar. Instead, go to the church to the right of the Site of Grace. If you use the ‘O Mother!’ gesture on the statue of Marika, it will move aside and reveal the hidden path to the Hinterlands. In this section of the map you’ll find multiple field bosses, a mysterious Shaman Village and the Finger Ruins of Dheo. That’s where the second duplication altar is located.
And if you missed it, the ‘O Mother!’ gesture is located on the cliffs near Bonny Village, an area you’ll need to cross to reach the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. We’ll talk about the Bonny Village in the next entry if you haven’t found it yet – just search for bodies on the cliffs to get the “O Mother!” gesture.
#3 Cathedral of Manus Metyr
The final of the three Remembrance Duplication altars is actually the easiest to find – unlike the other two, it’s located in a safe area that isn’t crawling with enemies, and it’s technically possible to reach without defeating any of the bosses. The altar is in the water to the southwest of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, the giant church that’s in ruins and you’ll pass by to enter the Shadow Keep, Church District area. If you haven’t reached this area before, just follow these steps.
Reach the Scadu Altus plateau to the north of Castle Ensis by either completing the castle and defeating the boss Rennala, or by taking the lower path and using the Spirit Spring to enter Fort Reprimand. Either way, you’ll find a large open area of the plateau with a giant sinkhole called Moorth Ruins.Use Torrent to ride down the seemingly bottomless pit, reaching the deepest level to find a ladder leading up. The ladder will take you to Bonny Village – see, we’re back there – and take you to the straight path up to the cathedral. Cross the two bridges and follow the road to reach the cathedral. You really can’t miss it.
The Duplication Altar is a lot easier to miss. Just look to the south of the cemetery to claim your reward. Unlike the Walking Mausoleums, these altars don’t require any challenge. The real challenge is just finding them. Many players have no idea these useful spots even exist, and they’re all worth unlocking as soon as you can – you don’t want to waste your final boss soul and get the wrong weapon. One of our favorites is the Shadow Sunflower Bloom from the Scadu Tree Avatar boss. It’s literally a really big wilted flower! There are more weird boss weapons, and you’ll want to get them all – there are only three Duplication Altars in the Realms of Shadow, not nearly enough to copy all 10 new Remembrances, but that’s at least three more chances to make as many one-of-a-kind weapons as possible.
