5. WORLD WAR II:
PREMISE:
World War II is to some the most iconic war in human history, so why has only one Call of Duty title explored it’s potential. World War II was obviously a conflict between the Allies; United States, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, China, France, Poland and more and the Axis Powers; Nazi Germany, Japan and Italy (until 1943). The war started on September 1, 1939, and ended 1 day later in 1945. This alone is example of various stories and fights that Call of Duty would do well to document in their incredible action sequences that we come to love from the Campaign.
WEAPONS:
World War II compared to some previous ideas provides even more incredible options for weaponry, the most common being the M-1 Rifles. In 1939, the world was much more developed when it came to weaponry so I won’t list specifics, but think Call of Duty: World at War. World War II also included the likes of Carriers, Submarines, Proximity Fuzes and Atomic Bombs, but, where it gets interesting is the supposed weapon experiments that the Nazi party had been conducting. Things like a V3 Cannon built into a hillside capable of firing from France to Britain. Massive “Dora and Gustav Rail Cannons”, 31.5-inch caliber behemoth cannons on top of trains. Exploding rats, attack planes, anti-tank dogs- yes, dogs. A crab tank, radio controlled bombs, the list goes on and on.
LIKELIHOOD:
It’s fairly easy to say, that with the right approach, Call of Duty would benefit from another World War II based game. It’s a fascinating and important war, with incredible stories and weapons, especially if the game could explore an alternative history, where the development of the Nazi experiments could be furthered. Well, I guess we’ll see, but at this stage, I’d say a return is very likely, as long as we continue to tweet this to Treyarch. #TBT1945
