9. COLD WAR:
PREMISE:
Now here’s a good one. The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after World War II and was fought between the Western Bloc (U.S. and NATO) and the Eastern Bloc (Soviet Union and allies). While the exact dates can never really be agreed on we can assume the cold war happened sometime after 100BC. Okay- okay. It was around 1947 – 1991. The term “cold” is used because there was no “war”, no large-scale fighting or conflict, so pretty boring stuff. Nope. The best part about the Cold War, and why it should be revisited in a future Call of Duty title are the classified special operations carried out by the CIA and the Soviets.
WEAPONS:
In terms of gameplay, I’d love to see a stealth-based Call of Duty, silenced weapons and such. Let me revisit the nostalgia of the ghillie suit mission from Modern Warfare. So what kind of weapons and gadgets could we expect? It’s reported that something common among spies at the time was a .38 single shot glove pistol, like the Assassins Creed hidden blade but for headshots. It is said that you could surrender without revealing the weapon then punch the guy when he gets close enough, unloading the round as your fist connects with his head. I guess for us all that would entail is a click of R3 when the enemy is in range, but hey, still pretty cool. Other gadgets include poisonous dart umbrella guns (it rains a lot in Europe), spy shoes with heel transmitters, lipstick guns, suicide glasses, invisible ink pens, pocket cameras and anally concealed toolkits with small knives and other trinkets. “Press F to Insert Anal Tools.”
LIKELIHOOD:
I’d say this is pretty likely. Black Ops has already been there, making for some of the franchises most memorable scenes. For a narrative shooter, the Cold War would be perfect to play around with common theories, spy/stealth missions, two-sided complex stories and maybe even a few low-intensity firefights. Oh and lots of ass knives.
