Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: How to Catch Meloetta

January 30, 2024 by Maddy Cohen

Meloetta is a Mythical Pokémon from Gen V. Unlike other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in The Indigo Disk, Meloetta can be caught at any time during the DLC.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet added something so convoluted to its Indigo Disk DLC that it seems like nothing more than a meme. However, you can catch a Meloetta in the Coastal Biome by following these weird steps. Kudos to whoever figured this one out with the obscure clues from Classroom 1-4.

Unlike most of the other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in The Indigo Disk DLC, you can catch Meloette before Snacksworth shows up at Blueberry Academy. All you need is access to the Terarium, so you can catch Meloetta before even challenging the Blueberry Elite Four. Follow the steps below to add Meloetta to your Pokédex.

Go to the Coastal Biome

Once you have access to the Terarium, fly or travel to the Coastal Biome. If you have the fly point unlocked, go to the Coastal Outdoor Classroom by the label for Torchlit Labyrinth. From there, travel east of the classroom to the east shore of the nearby lake.

Find the Leaf Tornado

This is the hardest part of the process. You need to find the area where the wind blows leaves in a circle. The best way to find this spot is by positioning your camera to look down on your character. You’ll see the breeze very subtly animated, along with leaves going in a circle rather than just one direction.

Go to the area between two large trees. The spot you need to spin is in between three small plants. You should be far enough from the shore to avoid seeing any water around you.

Spin Clockwise

Using the left joystick, make your character spin clockwise (to the right) for at least 10 seconds. Just run around in a circle very quickly until your character begins twirling on one foot. At this point, instead of constantly rotating your joystick, you can point the joystick down to keep yourself spinning.

Immediately Open Your Camera

As soon as you can, press Down on the D-Pad to open your camera. You need to do this immediately or you’ll have to spin again. Even waiting 5 seconds to open the camera is too long.

Once open, swap your camera to the Sepia Filter. You can do this by hitting left or right on the D-Pad until you set the camera to Sepia.

Search for Meloetta

Without closing the camera, look around to find Meloetta. You can increase your volume to listen to Meloetta’s Relic Song. Once Meloetta appears on your camera, you can close it.

Meloetta will stay in that spot and perform the Relic Song. Go up to Meloetta and use A to interact. This will trigger a battle where you can finally catch Meloetta.
