Mortal Kombat 1: How to Unlock Havik

September 18, 2023 by Matt Villei

Revel in Chaos!

The playable roster of Mortal Kombat 1 starts at a total of 23 characters, with 21 of them available right at the start of the game. One of the locked characters is Shang Tsung who is a pre-order bonus character but there is only one character that players will need to unlock by playing the game before they are given access to. This is the harbinger of Chaos, Havik, a returning fighter who is a playable character for the first time since 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Players who want to play as this chaotic individual or simply want to round out the character select screen will want to know how to unlock him. The process to get Havik unlocked takes a bit of time but isn’t too difficult. This guide will tell players how to unlock Havik as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1.

How To Unlock Havik In Mortal Kombat 1

Havik hails from Orderrealm, a world that uses a strict caste system and values order above all else. Those who rule the realm are more than willing to perform the most violent punishments for the smallest transgressions to maintain their order. Havik lives in a low caste of the realm and dreams of overthrowing the ruling order and replacing it with unabetted chaos.

While you will need to upgrade your player rank to unlock a few of the Kameo Fighters, Havik is the only character that you play as that must be unlocked before being allowed to play. In order to unlock Havik, you will need to complete the game’s cinematic Kampaign mode. This mode consists of 15 Chapters and runs around 4-6 hours in total length. You will play through a lot of the game’s cast while Havik will appear a few times to act as an antagonist but plays a pretty limited role in the story until the very end. You can beat the game on any difficulty to unlock him. Whenever you defeat Havik during the Kampaign, you will unlock new cosmetics before he is even unlocked. After completing the game and defeating the final boss, you will unlock him.

Once Havik is unlocked, you will be able to play as the character in every other mode in the game including the local and online modes, the training mode, and the new Invasion single player mode. You can unlock new consmetics for him while playing as him by going through Invasion as well as leveling up your Mastery Level for Havik by playing as him across the many different modes. You will also have a chance to get Havik gear by using Koins at the Shrine, but the gear is randomized so you’re not guaranteed something for Havik.
