Now that Quake 2 Remastered is out of the bag and everyone is gearing up to give it a whirl for the first time in over 20 years (potentially for the first time, ever), it’s time to discuss some of the finer points. Namely, we need to talk about the options players have when it comes to playing with their buddies.

This means we are going to have a look at whether or not Quake 2 Remastered is Cross-Play and Cross-Platform compatible. Not only that, we can have a gander at other methods of play. Quake 2 Remastered officially shadow-dropped on August 10 and is playable on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Does Quake 2 Remastered Have Cross-Progression

Quake 2 Remastered does not feature Cross-Progression, which means that any progress you make on one platform will not be carried over to another platform. If players want to play on multiple platforms, they will have to play through the single-player campaign(s) of Quake 2 on each platform respectively.

As Quake 2 is old enough to be some people’s dad, the game does not have any multiplayer progression or grading system. This means Cross-Progression would not have applied to that portion of the game, which diminishes the need for the feature quite substantially.

Does Quake 2 Remastered Have Cross-Play

We can confirm that Quake 2 Remastered is fully Cross-Play enabled. This means players from around the world can engage in multiple, regardless of platform. This is a huge plus for the health of Quake 2 Remastered as it combines every community into one deathmatch-loving band of misfits.

We have noticed some latency issues with the online in Quake 2 Remastered, which could be a result of Cross-Play. As of writing, there has been no confirmation either way. As it stands, however, players are free to engage in competitive and cooperative multiplayer, anywhere, anytime, and with anyone, which is a huge win for fans of the series.

That’s all we have on Quake 2 Remastered for now. Be sure to check out our other guides and lists for more Quake content.
