Education games may not be for everyone, but there are some fun titles out there that have educational purposes! Even on PS4!
#5 Minecraft
What’s that? Why is Minecraft on this list? That’s because it can teach kids about resource management and building things one block at a time.
Think about it. Many believe that the game is ‘easy’ and that all you need is time to “make something.” But that’s not true. You have to put in a lot of work and effort to ensure you get the desired results. Plus, you have to go out and get everything before you build!
Dedication, work ethic, planning, and adjusting to issues are all things you can learn from the game. So long as you have patience, that is.
#4 Lego Worlds
We’re going from a block-building title to a brick-building title! It’s time to talk about Lego Worlds. The game puts you in a procedurally-generated world where you can build anything your imagination can come up with. Do it brick by brick and see the works of your imagination!
Or you can hop on one of the many ways to travel the world and see what else it has to offer. If it’s been in a Lego set, you’ll probably find it here.
Oh, and challenge your friends to see who can do the best build-off with their bricks! Go and have fun with Lego!
#3 Assassins Creed [Discovery mode]
Before you panic about us showing a “violent game” in this educational list, you need to hear us out. Ubisoft is known for its Assassin Creed franchise, and it is brutal at times. But, starting with the “reboot” of the franchise, they put in a “Discovery mode.”
Throughout the last three mainline games, players could download this mode and get a “tour” of the lands that they play in. Through those tours and other mechanics you’ll learn more about the cultures of Greece, Ancient Egypt, and the Norsemen you are within the titles.
It has no combat and is meant to be completely educational. They were a big hit!
#2 Lego Dimensions
Ok, this one is more “educational” in that it’ll help you learn about various entertainment franchises in the world today. But that still counts as an education!
Within Lego Dimensions are 30 different franchises that will pull you into all sorts of adventures! You can team up with The Doctor and work with Batman or the Scooby gang. The adventures are there for you to take part in it. All you need to do is go!
With all kinds of wondrous things within the dimensions, you might find a few surprises along the way. So what are you waiting for? Get your Lego on and see what adventures you can do next!
#1 Dreams
Dreams was an ambitious title that may not have gotten the reception that it fully wanted, but those that got the game appreciated the effort that was put into it and the results you could make.
The game is a game development experience. You’re given an open space to build and do whatever you want. The point was to see what “dreams” you could make come true. Some people made little things, some people made big things, and the system gave you the tools and guidance to help make things work.
It’s not the best way to learn game development, but if you’re looking to make a career in that area? It’s a good place to start.
