Portal 2: Chapter 6 – Enrichment Sphere 2 Solution

July 7, 2022 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Time to learn to fly.

After the first act of Portal 2, the story takes a twist. GLaDOS is put into a potato, Wheatley is in charge of Aperture Science, and Chell is left to climb her way out of the old-school facility buried beneath the current one. When the player finally gets back to the testing areas, accompanied by the pre-recorded voice of Cave Johnson, they have to navigate puzzles using the newly introduced gels.

If playing through Portal: Companion Collection on the Switch, the Enrichment Spheres will be the first time that the player has come face to face with the gels that become a staple of Portal 2‘s latter half. Cave Johnson starts things off simply enough by introducing repulsion gel in the first Enrichment Sphere, but it isn’t until the second that things get a little more complicated.

How to Solve Enrichment Sphere 2 in Portal 2

After a little bit of traversing the ruined facility and portaling up to the test chamber, players will begin Enrichment Sphere 2 in earnest. Once making it inside the test, they’ll notice a button next to a pipe. Press the button and repulsion gel will start raining from the pipe onto a portalable surface.

Because the gel is falling on a portalable tile, it means that we’ll be able to spread it wherever we need as long as there are portalable surfaces in the area. Put a portal where the gel is dropping, then turn around and put your second portal on the leftmost vertical tile on the wall farthest from the button. For the exact positioning, see the image below.

With repulsion gel covering the floor, walk over to it and jump (hit the A button.) This will cause you to bounce higher in the air than you normally would from a regular jump. Use the extra height to get to the platform above to the left of your second portal. Once there, place your second portal on the wall to cover the platform in repulsion gel. Use it to jump to the next section of the floor above you.

From here, you’ll see that the next area you need to get to is across the testing chamber. To get there, put your second portal halfway between yourself and the distant platform. As soon as a glob of repulsion gel travels through it into the air, move the portal so that it splashes on the ground. With the gel on the ground in between yourself and the platform, jump onto it and bounce across the gap onto the platform.

Once on the other side, do the same portal switch trick with your second portal on the platform so that it gets covered in repulsion gel. Use it to jump to the next platform through the old-school emancipation grid.

Now that you’re at the highest point of the testing chamber, put your second portal on the slanted tile that’s just behind the emancipation grid. This will fling the repulsion gel across the chamber to a section of floor that’s close to the exit door. For the setup, see the image below.

With the gel covering the platform, peak over the edge of where you’re standing and put your first portal on the ground below you. Jump off and head directly to your portal which will fling you through the second portal on the slanted tile across the chamber and to the exit door.
