In terms of “bang for your buck,” the collection of classic Sonic games that is the recently released Sonic Origins is a great value. Now, fans of the series are able to play the first four entries all in one place on modern gaming hardware. The collection has remained true to the originals in a lot of ways, keeping most things untouched, and even adding a small handful of secrets such as the long-rumored Hidden Palace Zone to Sonic 2.
Sonic CD was something of a black sheep for the franchise in the early days as it was originally launched exclusively on the SEGA CD and not on the Genesis. The game has seen plenty of love over the years, so it’s nice that it was included in Sonic Origins sandwiched between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles where it belongs in release order.
As fans have returned to it in the new collection, they’ve been searching for the game’s secrets, same as with other fans in the collection, but coming up short. This has caused plenty to wonder if the Sonic Origins version of Sonic CD includes any of its original secrets.

Is the Sonic CD Sound Test Menu in Sonic Origins?
In regards to secret menus hidden within Sonic CD in the new collection, the unfortunate news is that it looks like they’ve been excluded. The menu in particular that fans were to hoping to find was the sound test menu that was hidden in the original game. To access it there, players needed to hit down, down, down, left, right, A. From the sound test menu, the player could input certain sounds in a certain order to unlock secrets in the game such as hidden levels.
To the dismay of many fans, Sonic CD‘s sound test menu, and by extension its other secrets, is not included in the Sonic Origins version of the game. This is surprising seeing as cheat menus and sound tests are available on the other three games included in the collection. At this point, fans are hoping that Sonic CD‘s secrets will be added in at some point down the line through a patch or free content update. Until then, they’ll just have to enjoy the cheat menus included in Sonic 1, 2, and 3 & Knuckles.
