Sam Lake, the creative director at Remedy Entertainment (the studio behind the Alan Wake games) has confirmed that players will not need to have played the first Alan Wake game before jumping into Alan Wake 2. Although players who have finished the first game will likely appreciate Alan Wake 2 more it makes sense that the studio wouldn’t make it a requirement given the long time between games.
