Rise of the Imperfects
Another mind-boggling comic book fighter, this time coming from the confused minds of Marvel. Everyone loves Marvel Vs. Capcom, but what about Marvel Vs. The Imperfects? A sane mind might ask, what in God’s name is an Imperfect? Well, they’re the new characters introduced in this game. These edgy video game creations were going to be the next big thing in Marvel… a gang of mutant-lite weirdos.
There was a six-issue miniseries meant to introduce the Imperfects to comic book audiences, but nobody liked this gang of complete jabronis. The game was actually a pretty high-profile development project with Electronic Arts at the helm, but we all know how EA Games bungles even its biggest name projects. Rise of the Imperfects is a weird footnote in Marvel fighting game history, and thankfully we got ourselves a much better Marvel Vs. Capcom a few years later.
Fight Club
The anti-corporate opus Fight Club doesn’t seem like the best possible candidate for a fighting game. It might even seem like an insane idea — but the Xbox / PS2 era was a dark time for fighting games. We were starving for anything fighting-related or fighting-adjacent. Anything! The Def Jam games brought some hardcore urban crime action to our consoles, and Def Jam’s success must’ve lit a fire under Vivendi Universal’s butt.
You won’t find Brad Pitt or Edward Norton anywhere in the game, but you will be able to play as their characters with new, much cheaper actors taking over their roles. If you’re looking for star power, you will find a returning Meat Loaf playing the same character as his film role. New to the table, Limp Bizkit lead singer Fred Durst is a playable character, continuing his run as the world’s goofiest secret video game unlockable.
