Having To Spend Money / Use Items To Save
Saving is our right. Most of the time, we’re used to unlimited saves in games — and saving whenever we want. But sometimes games just aren’t having that nonsense. Games from the Resident Evil series require Ink Ribbons to save, and you’ll only find a limited amount of those as you play. Then there are games like Donkey Kong Country — you have to pay gold coins just to save your game!
The practice hasn’t gone away either. The new Resident Evil 2 Remake has a classic mode that reintroduces ink ribbons as a limited resource. Another hardcore game from not too long ago keeps the slightly-annoying tradition alive — Kingdom Come: Deliverance forced players to drink ‘Savior Schnapps’ to save your game anywhere at release. And in a game that’s as hardcore as Kingdom Come, you’re going to want to save as often as possible.
Any RPG With Luck Stat
Out of all the stats, Luck is the least defined. Will it increase your chances of dodging attacks? Improve your critical hit? Cause more items to drop from loot containers? Or does it do nothing at all. The Luck stat always pisses us off, just because it’s the one stat we have no idea what to do with.
Luck appears in games like Wasteland 3, but thankfully that game gives you special perks as you level up, explaining exactly what benefits you’ll get from Luck. Others games like Demon’s Souls aren’t so forthcoming. Then there are games like Morrowind, where Luck is so obscure, most players won’t even know how to level the stat up. What do you do to practice luck? I have no idea. And that pisses me off.
