The Harald Curved Greatsword [Dark Souls 3]
A fan-favorite sword that’s also considered one of the best weapons in Dark Souls 3 — getting it really isn’t that hard if you’re willing to wait until the end-game to grab it. Anyone that completes the Ringed City DLC can get their hands on this. You don’t even have to fight the supremely annoying Demon In Pain and his brother the Demon From Below. So why is this sword on this list?
The sword is such a fan-favorite, lots of players opt to try and get it earlier so they can use it for more of their run through Dark Souls 3. You can actually access both DLC chapters pretty early in the game, so it’s very possible to reach the Harald Curved Greatsword before making much progress in DS3. The problem? To enter The Ringed City DLC, you must first complete the Ashes of Ariandel DLC by defeating Sister Friede.
Sister Friede is one of the hardest bosses in the game. It might be the flat-out hardest boss in the entire series — you have to fight a nimble sword-wielding warrior while also trying to dodge a hulking, cauldron-smashing beast. Trying to take this thing on at a low level is insanity, but with enough practice it can be done. That doesn’t make it worth all that effort.
Gjallarhorn [Destiny 1]
The Gjallarhorn, for a time in 2015, was the end-all be-all greatest weapon of Destiny. The exotic rocket launcher fired a cluster of rockets with each shot, and it was blatantly OP — if you want to join raids or other high-level activities with strangers, the Gjallarhorn was basically a requirement. Everyone needed one, but it was purely random chance to get it. Players would have to play dozens, if not hundreds, of hours replaying multiplayer matches in the vain hope you might get a Gjallarhorn.
And then in 2016, Bungie released the Rise of Iron DLC and the grind for the Gjallarhorn became a big waste of time. Instead of praying for a drop, you could now complete an Exotic Quest to earn the Gjallarhorn, and every single player in the game was able to earn one with (relatively) much less effort. The Gjallarhorn was still a god-like weapon for awhile, but suddenly all that effort was in vain. Why work so hard for something Bungie was going to give away a few months later?
That’s 10 of our most hated hunts for weapons, secrets, and other random items. There are so many more annoying items out there! We might have to revisit this topic in the future.
