#2 Life is Strange
Life is Strange is a great adventure game that follows the episodic style approach. From the development team, Dontnod Entertainment and published by Square Enix, players are given a mystery to solve while also tapping into some unique supernatural elements. It’s a five-part journey and if the best part about it right now is all of the episodes are available for players to dive into. Of course, with that said there are two additional game installments that players could also potentially get into after completing this first game. Let’s go over a quick synopsis of this game which should help offer some insight on if the title is worth the purchase.
Within Life is Strange, players take the role of a young school girl getting ready to graduate, by the name of Maxine, or better known as simply Max. After getting a scholarship to attend a prestigious school at her old hometown, Max heads to Arcadia Bay and re-acclimates only to discover she posses the ability to rewind time. With this newfound ability, Max bumps into her old best friend, Chloe, and the two make use of Max’s power to solve a missing girl case. It’s a journey filled with highs and lows, as players progress through the storyline to not only solve this open case but also a look into some of the town’s biggest secrets. Unfortunately, some things come at a cost, and depending on your actions, the game narrative will alter a bit. Fortunately, this is an easy-going type of game as you explore, solve puzzles, and choose from a series of dialogue options.
#1 Rise of the Tomb Raider
The Tomb Raider franchise has been around for decades and there’s been a following for the different eras of Lara Croft. While most would remember the series that got its start back on the original PlayStation, it wasn’t all that long ago in which we received a proper reboot of sorts. In 2013 we got the reboot of Tomb Raider which featured a vulnerable Lara Croft who ends up in a harsh location, away from her group and uncertain of what dangers she will endure. This game is what crafted Lara Croft into the badass heroine and raider of tombs. After her initial setup to get players in touch with the origins of Lara Croft, we got a mega-hit followup release with Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Everything we come to love from the Tomb Raider reboot is present, but rather than being a somewhat timid protagonist, Lara is a full-on adventurer who is ready to explore along with taking on any danger that may await her. Without spoiling too much for you, Rise of the Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft in a race to reach a fabled lost city which could hold relics among other key information. While she sets off to learn about the location of this city, she is up against an entire organization that goes by the name of Trinity. This is still very much an action-adventure style of game where Lara has elaborate areas to explore, puzzles to solve, and not to mention both wildlife along with human hostile enemies that will need to be taken out. Just like with other iconic Tomb Raider games, you’ll be able to sprinkle in some stealthy mechanics and a few supernatural elements that make this franchise shine. If you played the reboot and haven’t quite hit this installment, its certainly worth looking into online.
