The Most Anticipated Upcoming VR Video Games

October 20, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

Get ready to dive into new worlds on the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR.

#4 Stormland
  • Developer: Insomniac Games
  • Publisher: Oculus Studios
  • Platforms: Oculus Rift
  • Release: 2019

Insomniac Games alone should perk your ears just a little as the development studio is known for a number of great works. The latest being Spider-Man, one of the most anticipated and well-received video game for the PlayStation 4 this year which you can view our Before You Buy coverage right here. Coming up is a brand new game and one that’s set to be an Oculus Rift exclusive. Known as Stormland, this game puts players into the body of an android.

So far we know that the game’s protagonist is a gardener that ends up becoming dormant after an attack on his Homeland. Centuries past by when you come back online and attempt to fix your body along with reclaiming your land. We expect not only an immersive world to explore but finely tuned gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately, outside of 2019, we don’t have a specific date to attach on this project quite yet. With that said, it’s already gained quite a bit of hype and we can’t wait to see what the development studio has in store for us.

#3 The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners
  • Developer: Skydance Interactive
  • Publisher: Skybound Entertainment
  • Platforms: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive
  • Release: 2019

The Walking Dead has become a massive franchise. From its humble beginnings of a comic book series, The Walking Dead has spanned into a television drama, several novels, toy merchandise and of course video games. Sure not every game was a hit but with Skybound being in conjunction with The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, we have some faith in the game. This is another video game that doesn’t have too many details at the moment even though it was announced back in 2017. However, there is some basic synopsis we can share.

Within the game narrative, players will be dropped into the center of New Orleans who must survive the pandemic. Don’t write this game off as an on-rails zombie shooter. Instead, there is seemingly a deeper narrative campaign gamers can enjoy. Apparently, players will be presented with a series of tough choices that they will have to make which will steer you towards being a Saint or a Sinner.

At this point it’s unknown if there will be multiple endings because of the choices player will be presented with but we’re certainly looking to find out more. Much like most of the games on this list, there isn’t a specific release date attached the project other than sometime in 2019.

#2 Gungrave VR
  • Developer: Iggymob
  • Publisher: Marvelous USA Inc., Blueside
  • Platforms: PlayStation VR
  • Release: 2018 (Western Markets)

If you’re a fan of the Gungrave franchise then chances are you already know about Gungrave VR which is finally making its way into other markets this year. Taking place after the events of Gungrave: Overdose, players will pick up with Grave in a world where he seems to finally have some peace until SEED Infected begin to pop up around the world leaving Grave to deal with the mess.

This will be a fast-pace non-stop action title that will go from the first-person perspective to third-person depending on the narrative situation. We’re also looking at an episodic video game title where players can purchase episodes separately otherwise players can purchase the game fully at retail for $39.99 when it launches sometime this Fall for the PlayStation 4.

#1 Ghost Giant
  • Developer: Zoink
  • Publisher: Zoink
  • Platforms: PlayStation VR
  • Release: TBD

Ghost Giant is a cutesy video game title that follows a narrative story between a young lonely character and you, a massive giant ghost. While you remain invisible to everyone else, the game narrative has you becoming friends with the child named Louis and aiding him in a difficult position he’s been put in. This is a puzzle-focused video game title though it doesn’t have too many details available and we’re still waiting to get a release date. Currently, Ghost Giant is heading to the PlayStation VR, but developers have yet to fully determine a release date.
