There are six bosses total in Gaucamelee! 2. One of the bosses — Jaguar Javier — is totally optional and easy to miss. He’s located in a secret area in Los Manglares. To reach him, you’ll need to unlock the Wall Fly ability first. Wall Fly will take you to the Golden Egg / Key Piece challenge. Complete the gauntlet of difficult battle scenarios, and you’ll fight Jaguar Javier at the end.
El Muneco
The first boss is an unfriendly magician that teleports around the stage and summons spiky walls and minor enemies to attack Juan. Use the platforming stakes to launch yourself high enough to punch El Muneco out of the sky. He’ll be stunned for a second, so you can follow-up with a few stamina-depleted strikes.
Eventually, El Muneco will become a giant specter in the background! Just wait him out, and he’ll return to normal in no time.
Uay Pek
The cowardly Uay Pek tries not to fight you at all. He stays far away, launching linear beams of light to hit Juan at range. After taking off some of his health, he’ll change the stage in an array of different ways, usually locking himself in a room where you can’t get him. Defeat the enemies he spawns and attack when he’s actually vulnerable — it might take awhile, so try not to get hit by his lasers!
After bringing him down, he’ll transform into a giant new body that can’t be harmed. At this point, he’ll swallow Juan no matter what. Lucky for you, because his heart isn’t so invulnerable. Punch it to totally defeat this bonehead.
Zope Y Cactuardo
This diabolical duo can be a prickly encounter if you don’t know how to win. To actually damage the boss, you need to attack Zope, Cactuardo’s bird friend. Attacking the bird reveals Cactuardo’s weak point.
Zope doesn’t really attack, but he does fly up high so you can’t easily reach him. Meanwhile, Cactuardo summons spikes on the walls so you can’t easily wallrun up. Watch for spikes on the walls, and avoid Cactuardo’s jump attack, which summons even more spikes on the ground. When it looks clear, sprint up and smack Zope so you can stun Cactuardo and damage him without getting perforated.
Jaguar Javier [Secret Boss]
What might be the toughest boss battle in the game is totally optional. This secret boss is found in a Golden Egg location where you’ll earn a key piece. It’s in the first zone, Los Manglares, but you’ll need the wallfly ability to reach it. Beat up lots of enemies and you’ll be able to face off against Jaguar Javier.
This isn’t a standard duel. Javier is incredibly tough on his own, but once he’s down to 50% health, he’ll summon a second version of himself. At 25% health, he’ll summon a third. All three Javiers have the same amount of health, and the same attacks. To win, you need to defeat them all.
Use matching stamina-based attacks to break through their shields and swap between life / death to make them appear when they try to hide. They’ll swap shields constantly. Your best bet is to knock off their shields, then juggle multiple Javiers at once with stamina attacks. You’ll also want to focus on the prime Javier first, as he’ll have the lowest health. The fewer Javiers you have to face at once, the easier this fight becomes.
Uay Pek Rematch
Uay Pek has an impressive new body! He’s right before the final boss, and he’s a total joke. Just one punch, and this guy is down for the count. His body does look really cool, though!
Salvador
The final boss has two forms — in his first phase, you’ll need to destroy two giant snakes. Each one has a separate health bar, and one when is destroyed, the other one will become overcharged with power, turning red. It’s best to focus on one snake, destroy it, and then fight the single remaining snake. It might be powered-up, but it isn’t too bad. To really damage these snakes, use an uppercut and then a headbutt combo.
Javier appears next. He’s an unstoppable force of nature, and he can be tricky for one reason only — he changes shields constantly. When his shield is spiky, that means you need to break through his shield with a chicken-form special move. If it isn’t spiky, then use a Luchador-form special move. Dodge through his attacks, play it safe, and strike with the special moves that match his shield colors to defeat him. You’ll also need to swap between the land of the living / dead to hurt him when he becomes a black void.
If you can properly pull-off shield breaking moves, Salvador is totally manageable.
