July 5, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Grab a friend and enjoy these cooperative Xbox One video games.

#10 Gears of War
  • Developer: The Coalition
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios

The Gears of War franchise has been popular since it first debuted on the Xbox 360. Years later the game series received its fourth main installment that followed years after the events of Gears of War 3.

Players this time around took control of J.D. Fenix, the son of Marcus Fenix, who is a member of the COG army. With the world out of fossil fuels and new terrors lurk outside of city sanctuaries, COG must continue to keep humanity safe. However, new rebellious groups seeks a world that is rid of the COG reign.

Within the game, players can go through the campaign with two-player co-op while there is a five player co-op mode that puts players against waves of horde to fight off.

#9 Apex Legends
  • Developer: Respawn Entertainment
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: February 4, 2019

Apex Legends is a battle royale video game title. It’s quickly becoming the latest and greatest within the genre due to the fact that is also another free video game title to download. Likewise, Respawn Entertainment kept this game a secret which generated a ton of hype when it was released into the market. Gamers quickly downloaded this title and it gathered millions of players within its initial launch week. Again, the game is a battle royale title so ultimately this first-person shooter will have players striving to be the last man standing.

Players will find that the game will focus on teams of three and that the characters featured are hero classed based which offers their own unique attributes and abilities. Likewise, if you enjoy the Titanfall series then you will find that this game actually takes place in the same universe. Apex Legends takes place approximately thirty years after the events of Titanfall 2.

#8 The Division 2
  • Developer: Massive Entertainment
  • Publisher: Ubisoft

Set after the events of Tom Clancy’s The Division comes the sequel. Within Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 players will find that the smallpox pandemic has come to a close but the terror is not over yet. All active agents get a distress call to Washington D.C. where the law is coming to collapse and the only thing to restore order is the Division agents. As the last line of defense, players must go throughout the city and deal with the various factions that are trying to take control but you won’t have to go in alone. This is a multiplayer focused game just like the previous installment where players will work together and go against various enemies in co-op missions or fight against one another in a head-to-head PvP.

Again, much like the first installment, the development team is looking to keep this game active for a long time come and within its first year, the game received four free major content additions that added raids, new narrative missions, even additional specializations. More content is also in the works so you can expect more updates to come. As a result, this may be a solid game to enjoy with a group of friends, similar to titles like the Destiny franchise.

#7 Halo 5: Guardians
  • Developer: 343 Industries
  • Publisher: Microsoft

The latest main installment to the Halo franchise, Halo 5: Guardians, features a split between protagonists. Instead of fully focusing on going through the campaign as Master Chief, a new crew of Spartans are sent into the field in search of Chief who had went rogue.

Throughout the game you’ll learn just what Master Chief is up to though most fans of the franchise has felt that Halo 5: Guardians was not able to live up to the hype in terms of story and gameplay surrounding its release.

Outside of the online multiplayer game modes to face against other players, Halo 5: Guardians does feature online co-op of up to four players.

#6 Fortnite
  • Developer: Epic Games, People Can Fly
  • Publisher: Epic Games

Fortnite is developed between Epic Games and People Can Fly where players are tossed into a co-op sandbox world with a goal of surviving waves of undead hordes.

In the story, Fortnite unveils a tale in which most of the world’s population was suddenly taken away leaving the remaining few to deal with zombies that have dropped from the skies. Fornite really shines with its multiplayer as players will gather together to build up their fort. Overall, your goal is to build up a base during the day and prepare for a long battle at night.

Likewise the game also received a battle royale mode similar to PUBG. Players can jump online and work together in a means to take out opposing gamers or they can opt to play alone and attempt to be the last man standing.
