Tom Clancy’s: The Division 2
- Developer: Massive Entertainment
- Publisher: Ubisoft
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: March 15, 2019
The Division was a big hit as an online third-person shooter. During E3 2018, we got a look at the upcoming sequel, The Division 2. Players will find that the story will take place months after the events of the first title. This time around, it seems that agents of The Division are going up against a corrupt government, causing a second civil war within The United States of America.
There is likely to be a progression system for players to unlock new equipment and abilities though we’re still waiting to hear more details regarding the leveling system. Currently, the game already has three expansion packs available for the game during its first year of release. These DLC packs will include new story and activities for players to go through, but best of all, these DLC packs will be available for free to all those who purchase a copy of the game.
Town (Working Title)
- Developer: Game Freak
- Publisher: Nintendo
- Platforms: NS
- Release: 2019
Development studio Game Freak may be best known for their work on the Pokemon franchise but over the years the development studio has delivered other RPG focused games into the market. During the September Nintendo Direct, we got the unveiling of their next big IP release in the development, Town. This is only a working title at the moment and very few details have been released.
What we do know so far is that this game will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive in which players are put into an old village that previously lived harmoniously. That suddenly changed when the village started to spawn monsters for players to defeat. As players go through this turn-based combat RPG title they’ll learn of the reason behind the sudden appearance of monsters in the town.
As of right now, there are very few details regarding the game so we’ll have to wait until more information is released before we can really start to speculate. However, with that said, because this is a Game Freak developed video game, we do have some high expectations.
The Outer Worlds
- Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
- Publisher: Private Division
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: 2019
Obsidian Entertainment is a well-known and beloved video game development studio after they have released countless iconic RPG titles. For instance, the developers were responsible for Fallout: New Vegas and during The Game Awards 2018 came the announcement of The Outer Worlds. This is a brand new experience which resembles a bit like their past Fallout: New Vegas work. Within the game players will be embarking on an adventure set in the distant future where mankind has colonized space. So far we know that players will be investigating megacorporations to find just how strong of a hold they have on life and the colonized worlds.
Just like with past RPG titles developed under Obsidian Entertainment, the gameplay narrative will present players with multiple answers and options. Depending on the options selected may result in various branching storylines. Unfortunately, we don’t have to many details regarding the game narrative and gameplay mechanics. However, as mentioned, this is an RPG adventure so players can still expect to see various customization options and a massive world to explore.
This game quickly become one of the more anticipated video game releases of 2019 but we’re still waiting for more information to release. The development studio has done some pretty incredible RPG titles in the past. As a result the bar is set pretty high for The Outer Worlds when it comes to delivering a solid RPG experience. It does appear that choices will play a part in the narrative journey and if we are traveling across different worlds then we may end up tweaking our characters equipment and stats but that is purely speculation on our part.
Dragon Age: Dread Wolf Rises
- Developer: BioWare
- Publisher: BioWare
- Platforms: N/A
- Release: N/A
The Dragon Age franchise received a new title announcement during The Game Awards 2018 though we didn’t get a ton of information. It appears that the game will be called Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf Rises and will be taking place after the last DLC events of Dragon Age: Inquisition, we’ll avoid spoiling anything for now if you have yet to try the game out.
As mentioned this is just a small teaser, something essentially to confirm that BioWare is working on the game and they are not ready to really reveal just what gamers can expect from the upcoming adventure quite yet. We’re not even positive if this game will be released in 2019 but on the chance it is then we suggest keeping an eye out for more information in the coming months.
This game may very well not release in 2019 but the RPG franchise is filled with hopeful gamers that the title will launch before 2020. Because there is very little information out for the game, we can just expect more crafting equipment as we travel across the open world and aiding in side quests.
