Right from the start of this battle, Mateus will have five Azers helping him during the battle. Defeat the Azers first then divert your attention to the Esper. Use Storm Spear, Storm Staff, or thunder-based magicks against the boss to help lower his health quickly.
A few things to take note of when you start your battle with Mateus are his Blizzaja attacks and his use of Sap. Keep a few remedies on-hand and even Shell in order to help your defense against these attacks.
