Sony has announced that the production and shipping on the PS3 will be coming to an end very soon.
PlayStation 3 originally launched in Japan back in November 2006, then launched in Europe the following March.
The company made the announcement on the 500GB PlayStation 3’s product page. No precise date has been given, but an unknown game shop in Kurume, Fukuoka, tweeted it has received notification that the console’s production run will end this month. Sony will stop shipping the models once the remaining units are gone.
In a blog post announcing the discontinuation of the PS Now service for certain devices, Sony said: “After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices. This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further.”
