Guild Wars 2 has been out for a couple of weeks, and despite its overwhelming breadth of content, many players are keen to know whether the studio intends to support the game in the weeks and months ahead with the addition of new content.
Due to the game’s subscription-free model, questions have been raised as to whether ArenaNet plans to make players pay for the new content, which will inevitably see release in the near future.
Speaking for the company on the game’s official forums, ArenaNet’s Colin Johanson said that players would have “no need to buy them.”
“[Guild Wars 2] will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward,” he said. “Our goal is to make it so you get more from GW2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.”
“On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.”
Presumably, the large-scale expansion content he refers to would be similar to the first Guild Wars’ full fledged expansion packs like Nightfall.
Johanson added that the studio will cover the details on the support and plans they have in place over the next month by distributing the news through the press.
“We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!”
