During Sony's Gamescom press conference, the publisher decided to end the show with a bang by showcasing Naughty Dog's The Last of Us — okay, Black Ops: Declassified ended it, but let's just forget it did, shall we?
Now that's out of the way, what Naughty Dog showed was admittedly brief, but still impressive nonetheless. I particularly like the song they used to paint just how grim everything is…and for that, we can thank Hank Williams Sr. as he's the one responsible for it.
What I really like about The Last of Us is that while we know it's somewhat of a zombie/monster game, the focus isn't really on cheap scares and whatnot. Just like the previous trailers, we get to see the actual humans acting like monsters in these apocalyptic times…which raises the tension and scares even more.
The gameplay footage itself is spliced from what Naughty Dog showed off at E3 with added bits of new stuff thrown in for good measure. After watching it, I think it's safe to say that most people won't be minding that Naughty Dog re-used a couple of seconds of old gameplay, no?
Unfortunately, we still don't have a definite release date for The Last of Us other than sometime in 2013. Once we know when it's going to be out, we'll be sure to let you know.
