Square Enix Teases Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Project

December 14, 2016 by Jordan Biazzo

More and more evidence points to a 30th anniversary Final Fantasy collection

Ever since the launch of Final Fantasy XV, rumors have been running rampant of an upcoming Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary collection title.

Fans of the series know that 2017 will mark the 30th-anniversary date. Many are expecting big plans for the milestone of the franchise, and thanks to the Weekly Famitsu, we now know that they are at least working on something.

Final Fantasy Brand Manager Shinji Hashimoto, stated in the latest Weekly Famitsu, that there are upcoming projects for the 30th year anniversary and that an announcement will be coming soon.

“As for other 30th anniversary projects, there are things that will be announced soon, so please look forward to it.”

Final Fantasy

Early rumors are stating that the 30th-anniversary collection will include  Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX and it will be released on PS4 and PS Vita in a single disc/card. It will also include two versions of Final Fantasy I to VI: original versions from NES/SNES and modern ports (mostly mobile ports). To read the full list of rumors, click here.

However, as of now the only anniversary plan announced by Square Enix is a Final Fantasy XIV-themed real escape game opening across several Zepp locations in Japan starting February 10; which Final Fantasy Brand Manager Shinji Hashimoto recently gave some details on.

Hashimoto-san mentions that the first event will be an escape game in collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV that will be hosted in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka, featuring sixty minutes fighting mysteries set in the world of Final Fantasy, but that’s just the beginning.

Final Fantasy will celebrate its 30th anniversary on December 18, 2017.
