Peter Molyneux, the creator of Fable, Black & White and more recently, GODUS, says that he would like to work on the Fable franchise once more and create Fable 4.
Speaking to OXM, Molyneux expressed his desire to return to the series he once built by getting the original team back together.
“It’s crazy that Fable 4 isn’t being made. I would love to do Fable 4, and the studio tried to do it. You’d have to get the original team back together though,” Molyneux said.
Microsoft, which picked up the license after it acquired Molyneux’s former studio, Lionhead, was developing an asymmetrical multiplayer game called Fable Legends, which entered beta and was later canceled due to lack of interest.
In the years since Molyneux developed Fable 3, he left the studio he co-founded to create a new indie company to develop a ‘next-gen’ god game Godus. It was not well received by neither fans of his games nor critics.
Though still in the hands of Microsoft, some former developers of Lionhead could secure rights to the franchise to develop a CCG called Fable Fortune, which plays like Hearthstone.
At this point, it’s not impossible that Microsoft will allow Molyneux and a band of developers to work on Fable 4, but as to whether he’ll be able to secure the funds to make it remains to be seen.
