Cyberpunk 2077 Features Huge Living City, Possible “Seamless Multiplayer”

Some new details about Cyberpunk 2077 have surfaced.

CD Projekt Red, the makers of The Witcher series, have kept their next venture under relatively heavy wraps. The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 was first revealed as a kick-ass CGI trailer way back in 2013 that depicts a cyborg who loses control, kills a bunch of people, and gets surrounded by police before being inducted into the Psycho Squad.

The studio set a very high bar with its release of The Witcher 3 and its expansions, and it’s one they intend to surpass with the upcoming game. The company applied for grants through the Polish GameINN program for a variety of technologies related to the new game, including City Creation, Animation Excellence, Cinematic Feel, and Seamless Multiplayer.

GamePressure, which translated the report, describes City Creation as a “complex technology for creating a huge living city, playable in real time, which (the technology) is based on rules, AI, and automation, as well as supports innovative processes and tools for making top-notch open world games.”

While CD Projekt Red is best known for its single-player titles, it wouldn’t be the first time they’re making a multiplayer game. The Witcher Adventure Game and the upcoming GWENT title are both multiplayer games, but from the sounds of the technology they have, Cyberpunk 2077 will be a lot more than that.

Seamless Multiplayer is described as a “complex technology for making unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search out opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, as well as support for different game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.”

PC Gamer contacted the studio to inquire about the applications, and were told that the GamePressure report was completely accurate. They did not elaborate on their plans for the game, however.

Whether Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer in it remains to be seen, but CD Projekt Red definitely has the technology to add it into the game, if they so choose.
