The latest Kickstarter update for A Hat in Time had the news everyone was always waiting for. The release date. Today, the developers finally nailed down a 2017 launch for their game.
The first thing the developers showed off was their progress table for each of A Hat in Time‘s episodes. Based on the chart’s indications, they’ve entered the final leg of the race. As an aside, they made a note that there are 2 post-release chapters planned as updates.
When it came to talking about the release date of the game, A Hat in Time‘s developers made it fairly clear. They didn’t announce a release date earlier as they understood the public doesn’t like to be disappointed with delays. By not having a set date up until now, they’ve managed to avoid the controversies that Mighty No 9 and Star Citizen have had.
We’ve been very clear about not wanting to announce a release date for A Hat in Time until we are 100% certain we can deliver the game by that date. We’ve seen other projects announce release dates that weren’t met (such as Mighty No 9), and the public has made it very clear that they’d rather receive a single, solid release date than an estimated release date that may eventually get delayed.
We are not at a point yet where we can mark a specific date down, as the final stages of development are new grounds for us. However, based on our current progress, we can say the following with absolute certainty:
A Hat in Time will release in 2017
We hope to narrow this down to a specific date in the future, when A Hat in Time is content-complete. Thank you very much for your patience with us, we’ve put our all into delivering a high quality, grand adventure on a small budget, and that takes time. We are certain it will be worth the wait, and we’re looking forward to sharing the game with you!
It was a decision that seemed to work out for the best here. At the end of the non-spoilers section, they revealed the A Hat in Time Kickstarter goods were being made. Included with that was a picture of the game box.
Below that, the update talks about what you can expect in chapter 3, which features an act called Murder on the Science Express. They had a spoiler wall put up in capital letters and bold print, so if you don’t want to be spoiled for yourself click away from this article now.
Here’s a picture of their final art passes, below this picture there will be SPOILERS.
The plot of Murder on the Science Express has you investigating a train murder, while Crow Agents scheme to stop you. Chapter 3 also features The Moon, which is populated by a society of party loving penguins. Additionally, a new badge called “Queen Time” was shown off, allowing Hat Kid to slow down time to deal damage to enemies.
The last of the in-game content reveals shows us your Hat Kid co-op partner. He’ll be in both the local and online cooperative game modes.
