The two latest IPs from Naughty God, The Last of Us and Uncharted, have both went on to win awards along with captivating the hearts of several gamers. There’s a touching story in both franchises and their worlds could open up a massive blockbuster hit. So what’s the progress of both video game adaptation films? Neil Druckmann gives out a status update, but it’s one that you probably won’t be fond of hearing.
Video game movie adaptations can be difficult and touchy. While some are well done, there are plenty that leaves us unsatisfied. However, we have high hopes for both film adaptations of The Last of Us and Uncharted, mostly due to the story being written out by Naughty Dog.
These video games truly felt like gamers were watching a big blockbuster film to begin and with a compelling story filled with adventures, we’re dying to know when we’ll see these IPs hit the big screen. Thanks to an interview between The Frame and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, we’re learning that the progress of these two films is in development hell.
It seems that Hollywood likes to move slowly as Neil Druckmann mentions that he’s a writer on The Last of Us film adaptation when questioned about his involvement with the production and its current status.
“I have been a writer on it, but right now it hasn’t moved anywhere in the past couple years.”
Furthermore, Neil makes mention that the production for Uncharted has been even longer.
“The “Uncharted” film has been in development now for I think nine years so we’ve learned these things happen at their own time, very slowly.”
It would be interesting to see just who is cast within these films as there has been plenty of rumors suggesting that Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams, would be taking the role of Ellie in The Last of Us. However, if this production continues to take too much time before filming can begin, there’s a good chance we’ll lose Williams for another younger actress.
