Since the grand reveal of God of War during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference briefing, we noticed a number of changes that Kratos will be facing. For instance, we’ve learned that Kratos will now be facing Norse mythology gods and monsters instead of the Greek mythology. Though most notably it was revealed that Kratos now has a new son who is still very much learning to fight and fend for himself. Now some of the gameplay mechanics were shared to GamesRadar while at this year’s E3 event.
While checking the upcoming God of War video game, lead gameplay engineer Jeet Shroff spoke about the upcoming combat system that gamers could make use of. Kratos has exchanged his long chained blades for a new mighty axe and unlike the previous installments to God of War, gamers will be using the trigger buttons to control the axe.
There are a few different approaches when battling enemies. Gamers can swing their axe at an enemy, throw it, or even use Kratos bare fists. While Jeet Shroff declined to comment on the magical runes that seemed to have been placed within Kratos’ axe, it would seem that gamers could use a variety of magical runes to further inflict damage against an opposing threat. The demo showed off at E3 reveals Kratos has the ability to use ice-based attacks with his axe, but again, no comments were made on that matter.
Lastly, it was unveiled that the child alongside Kratos will be able to help gamers out. While in combat, gamers can hit a button that will trigger the child to help battle against the targeted enemy. Both Kratos and his son can be upgraded over time which will allow gamers to craft the two characters into a nearly unstoppable force. The upcoming God of War video game is expected to release sometime next year, 2017, for the PlayStation 4.
