According to Forbes, China now has a massive sixty-four percent of its gaming population now spending money to the allure of online games. Niko Partners ran the survey for Forbes.
It is common knowledge that the country has a soft spot for gaming: gold farming as a full-time job is testament to that, but this is an even bigger step towards online gaming for China.
Niko Partner's Lisa Cosmas Hanson had this to say on the development, “Domestic Chinese developers and publishers seem to have it a bit easier than foreign companies, but even foreign developers and publishers can succeed if they truly read the market and determine what is in demand and which of their games could succeed there,"
“Social, mobile, web games (these are very hot now) and of course MMORPGs and advanced casual – the more complex the development the less likely it is to be copied, but sometimes the simple games are the best way to enter the market just to get a toe in the water.”
This reinforces the idea that China is becoming more and more accepting of foreign companies and their policies, which means that it is extremely probable the number of Chinese gamers will increase over the coming years.
Niko Partners estimates that by 2015 China will be the home of 266 million gamers, all playing at least two hours per month, by 2015.
