WAR! What is it good for? Being a setting for video games? Admittedly, that’s a bit lame, but there are plenty of war games coming out, and 2026 will be no different, so allow us to show you the “Best New War Games of 2026!”
#16 – ’83

The game known as 83 is meant to be an alternate take on history itself. Mainly because the game tries to imagine a time when the Cold War…got very hot. To the extent that massive battles would need to be waged in order to protect the future.
This game aims to bring a lot of players to the table, because in each massive map, you’ll be able to hold over 80 players in total, meaning there will be a lot of people running and shooting on the map.
More than that, though, you’ll have to work together in order to complete objectives that will change the battlefield and what needs to happen next.
#15 – Gallipoli

World War I was fought on many fronts, and there was a reason it lasted so long. Many attempts to try to oust the Germans and their allies were met with heavy resistance, and you’ll see one such example of that in Gallipoli.
This campaign was meant to stop the Ottoman Empire from helping the Germans further, but what followed was a monstrous campaign that lasted four years and cost many lives. Now, you’ll see it from the perspective of the soldiers who had to fight those battles.
You’ll fight on various terrains and against many foes, so be ready for a struggle like no other.
#14 – Valor Mortis

History has a way of getting fictionalized to make interesting video games, and Valor Mortis is one such example of that for the war genre. In the game, you play a soldier who served in the Napoleonic wars and died as a result of them. But, death has a funny way of “not sticking,” and you’re soon reborn…and find out the world is now a nighmarish landscape.
Oh, and you can literally suck the life out of people. We’re pretty sure that’s not a real thing in war, but hey, it’s a video game, deal with it!
You’ll need to learn more about what happened and fight off the supernatural threats that now exist here, gaining new powers as you do. Can you help bring this war to end?
#13 – Strategos

History has given us plenty of battles to have fun dissecting and seeing who was on the right and wrong side of history. With video games like Strategos, you’ll get to see for yourself what happened, or make something that has never happened in war, but you want to see how it would play out.
That means that you can rewind the clock or change history entirely by putting massive armies, each with thousands upon thousands of soldiers, on display and then have them clash.
Just remember, like in the real thing, strategy is key, and so if you don’t want your armies to get wiped out…be smart about how you send them forward.
#12 – The Last General

In battle, it doesn’t just matter what units you have to send to the front to take out the enemy; it’s about all the resources you have to try and make the situation better for yourself, and worse for your enemy. In The Last General, you’ll see just how expansive war can be when you are tasked with going over a massive swath of land and transforming it into something that you can use.
You can build, destroy, conquer, occupy, whatever it takes to achieve victory. With numerous units under your command, you’ll have to think as a true strategist to come out on top
#11 – Anvil Empires

How about we shift things to medieval times? Just as important, how about we put you in a war scenario where it’s not just YOU on the line here, but thousands of others? In Anvil Empires, you’ll take part in large-scale medieval conquests that have you laying siege to castles, taking on other armies, and so much more.
The game tries to present its realism not just in the scale, but in the time factor. Sieges won’t be over in minutes, as there’s so much at play here.
Plus, as your own empire grows, you’ll have to maintain it so that it can withstand attacks and cut off supply lines. Do you think you can last in the battles to come?
#10 – Medic: Pacific War

War has many different heroes, and for some, the biggest heroes are the ones who saved their lives when all seemed lost. Medic: Pacific War puts you into World War II as a combat medic, whose job is to find the soldiers who are wounded and get them to safety, while also treating what you can.
This won’t be easy, for whether you’re in Pearl Harbor or one of the many island battles that happened during the war, you’ll need to keep your head on a swivel and ensure you can help those that you find.
Do all you can to save all you can.
#9 – Falcon Fall

Many of the war games we’ve shown you today have been about giving you a “higher perspective” on warfare, but with Falcon Fall, it’s the opposite. The game is built on the real feeling that many soldiers have when they’re in hostile territory, but they don’t have anyone to back them up.
You can’t call in reinforcements from HQ, as you can’t reach them. You’re told that everything is “cold” in the zone you’re entering, but you know that’s not true.
Every move you make could be your last, and thus, you must use all your skills and work with your fellow soldiers to complete the missions you’re assigned and get out alive.
#8 – Empire Eternal

Sometimes, the greatest war out there is one of survival, not just across a certain moment of history, but all of history. In Empire Eternal, you’ll get the chance to create your own civilization, expand, and then fight across time itself as technology evolves and new threats arise to see if you truly have the ability to make your kingdom last forever.
Arguably, the best part about the game is that you can take on challenges yourself, or you can see how you’ll fare against others and have intense multiplayer contests! The choice is yours, but the results you aim for will always be the same.
#7 – Sudden Strike 5

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice how many of these war games aren’t just about giving you units to command, but giving you units to command wisely. In Sudden Strike 5, you’ll be put into key parts of World War II, specifically the European and African theaters, and asked to command units to victory. However, what units you choose for each battle is up to you.
You have a long campaign ahead, and at its peak, you can use over 300 military units to try and take down the enemy! Do you think you have what it takes to obtain victory?
#6 – Mars Tactics

Mars is one of the places that humanity wants to get to, but if we’re being honest, it’s only a matter of time before we start clashing and trying to fight for resources there, too. In Mars Tactics, you’ll get to see this from two different angles and attempt to win the day against your foe using the options before you.
For example, if you’re on the side of those just fighting for survival, you’ll need to use your limited resources to get the upper hand, even if that means blowing things up just to get cover.
Or, if you’re better funded, you can use your reach to put more pressure on your enemies. The battle is yours to do with as you will.
#5 – DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered

It’s not a stretch to say that DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 Complete Edition Remastered is something that many of you know exactly what to expect with.
As in this franchise, and all its spinoffs, they act the same way, more or less. You’ll be put to the task in ever-escalating battles where you must take outposts, help allies, and wipe out enemies by the hundreds with over-the-top attacks.
With this game, you’ll get the best version of arguably the best title in the run. So, if you’re a fan of this series, you’ll have a blast tearing through things with a fresh coat of paint and some extra content.
#4 – Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

Vietnam was far more than just a war; it was something that affected people and countries so intensely that we still reference it today. One such example is via the title Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, where you’ll be part of a 50-man squad who must brave the jungles of Vietnam to try and claim victory for your side. That won’t be easy, as each of the game’s six maps is massive in scope, and you’ll need to be cautious with each step that you take.
The game attempts to make things as realistic as possible, ensuring that you have multiple options on the battlefield, including having aerial units helping you out.
#3 – Projekt Z: Beyond Order

Imagine an island full of zombies, and every single day, there is a fight for survival against them. Well, you don’t have to imagine that, as Projekt Z: Beyond Order is exactly what that scenario details. In the game, you and potentially three other players will be trapped on an island post-World War II, and have to work your way around the many areas of the island to get loot so you can build yourself up to fight the zombie horde.
Whether you play alone or in co-op, your goal is to get better gear and enhance yourself however you can. Build, fight, roam, survive, it’s all you can do if you hope to want to make it through the horrors to come.
#2 – Game of Thrones: War for Westeros

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is yet another gaming attempt to keep the main franchise alive. Yes, there is a spinoff that will get a third season soon enough, and another spinoff that’ll premiere in January, but those aren’t the same things for many reasons.
Thus, they turn to the video game space to try to keep things rolling. In this case, you’ll be picking one of the many sides and factions that helped fill up Westeros and the main plot. Then, you’ll go to battle to either save the world or doom it.
The game’s ending won’t always go the way of the show, and many of you might be fine with that!
#1 – Falling Frontier

One of the things that we as humans can’t wait to do is go to a new star system and attempt to colonize it. In Falling Frontier, that’s exactly what you get to do! The catch is that there are rival factions from a previous Earth war that are also in the system, and they don’t want to play nice with you. Hint: there will be war in the stars above!
As a result, you’ll need to look over the system, build up your fleet and structures, and attempt to do all you can to beat off any attacks by these rivals.
What will the system look like when you’re done with it? Jump in and find out.
