Supermassive Games should be a household name if you enjoy horror games or interactive dramas. The development studio found its footing with Until Dawn and kept up with that style of gameplay ever since. Fans have enjoyed a slew of titles over the years from this team, and their next game in that style is not set to launch until 2026. For those unaware, Directive 8020 was delayed until 2025.
The next installment to The Dark Pictures Anthology might not arrive on time this year, but Supermassive Games is still looking at ways to market it. Gamescom is going on, and with it, we’re still getting a slew of new updates and video game announcements. One of those games that has hit the web with brand-new footage is Directive 8020.
Directive 8020 Prologue Gameplay Footage Released
Supermassive Games decided to upload just over ten minutes of gameplay footage for their upcoming title. It’s a sneak peek of what to expect and another taste of the new narrative journey players will be tossed into. That said, this is still a work-in-progress game, so there could be some changes that pop up between now and its official release.
For a fresher, this title is set in the future where players are following a colony ship that is seeking out a new planet. However, it’s soon discovered that a shapeshifting alien compromised their ship. Just like the previous games from The Dark Pictures Anthology, players will have to deal with tough choices and QTEs to get through the storyline.
That said, there is a new feature being added to this title called Turning Points. With this feature, players will be able to rewind to different moments of the game’s storyline where a specific choice opens up a new branch. Now, you can go back and see how the storyline would have unfolded.
Again, the delay of this title has pushed it into 2026. Beyond that generic launch window, we know that when the game does release, you’ll find it available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Meanwhile, we know that Supermassive Games’ other title in the works, Little Nightmares III, is still on schedule for a release this year.
