Sony made some big announcements during the CES 2025 event, one of which included some new adaptations, such as Helldivers. CES 2025 was recently held, and while the focus was mainly on tech and what’s coming out from various manufacturers, Sony announced new adaptations from their various video game IPs. One of the announcements featured at the event was Helldivers receiving a live-action movie adaptation. We’re discovering that the developers behind the recently released Helldivers 2 will be involved with the upcoming movie. But they are not sure just how much involvement they’ll be able to offer.
Thanks to Insider Gaming, we’re finding out that the director behind Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, recently uploaded an image on X showing that the developers had reunited over a meal. That’s when one fan reached out, hoping to learn if the developers would be attached to the upcoming movie adaptation. According to the developer, while he was dodging this question, they are now confirming that they will be involved.
However, Johan Pilestedt did note that they are not Hollywood people and are unaware of what it takes to make a movie. So, while they can lend a hand and help the filmmakers where necessary, they don’t have the final say on anything the filmmakers opt to do. Of course, we’ve seen some success lately with adaptations that stick close to the source material.
Perhaps we’ll see the same level of success with the Helldivers movie. But since the film was only recently announced to be in the works, it will likely be a long time before we actually see any marketing materials released to the public. In the meantime, you can continue to enjoy Helldivers 2, which is now available on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. You can even view our Before You Buy coverage of the game below.
