MultiVersus Patch Mysteriously Re-Adds Gandalf’s Textures

July 3, 2024 by Carley Garcia

It’s uncertain when everyone’s favorite wizard will make his way into the fighting title.

MultiVersus returned to online storefronts in May after a year offline for fine-tuning. New updates keep coming, but the newest one is hiding something strange, according to dataminers. In early versions of the game, Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings was featured as a playable character–not only that, the legendary wizard was featured front and center.

However, Gandalf never made it into the final version of the game, as the rights were handed over from Warner Bros. to Amazon. Strangely, the character’s textures have been added back into the game with the massive new update, according to dataminers. The patch also added textures for the Hulk.

In this MVS patch, they readded textures for Gandalf and… The Hulk???

These could be OLD files and they don't confirm that they'll be coming to the game, Gandalf might but only time will tell. #MultiversusLeaks pic.twitter.com/YGKSYZXJZU

It’s unclear whether this was purposeful or just a simple mistake, but players may want to keep an eye on upcoming character announcements. According to recent leaks, 20 additional fighters are on their way in the future, including Marvin the Martian, Ben 10, Samurai jack, Johnny Bravo, and Ted Lasso.

Updates for Multiversus continue, with the new 1.05 update rebalancing characters and adding Agent Smith as a playable character. Players can snag the Matrix character as early as July 8 through a free event, and he will be added to the main roster on July 23 for purchase.

Two new modes are also being added to the MultiVersus: Spectator and Free-For-All. Spectator mode can be used in custom games and supports up to four players, while Free-For-All mode removes the team element from four-player matches. The first player to score four ringouts wins.

MultiVersus is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
