Upcoming puzzle platformer In the Shadows is steadily moving along with development.
The game’s developer Nicolas Temese recently confirmed the console versions of the game were definitely moving forward with a 2017 launch window. In the Shadows was submitted to Steam Greenlight at the end of March, got quickly approved by the gaming community, leading to a thumbs up from Steam to get it on their store. The PC, Mac, and Linux versions will come out before consoles, in “late 2016”.
The main gimmick of the game is pitting the player against shadowy monsters, turning them into different objects with the power of a light source. The items these creatures turn into varies and that central concept drives gameplay forward. Looking at the photos, it seems that the setting is based in reality, but the line separating what’s real and imaginary starts to blur.
The story of the game is only briefly mentioned, but according to the Greenlight page: “In The Shadows is a story about a man who dives back into a childhood fantasy world, to remember his past, to make sense of his life. A deep emotional journey about confronting your fears.”
There’s also a crowdfunding campaign that the In the Shadows game studio launched on April 19th.
“Didn’t he already make the game? What does he need money for?!?”
No need to worry about this, as Colorspace Studio explained why they’re doing one now.
“The purpose of this Kickstarter is to help me finish this game as I imagine it. The funds will be used to pay for the music, equipment, software licenses and everything else related to the development of the game. It will free me to work on the game full time until the release.”
Nicolas and Colorspace Studio are finishing development no matter what, this Kickstarter is just to help make the final touches beforehand go smoothly.
Give it a look if you want to be a part of that process. The rewards across all the tiers are digital, which means receiving them will be painless. They range from a limited edition “Earlybird” copy of the game for $8 USD, all the way up to your name in the credits as a major contributor for $193 USD.
The In the Shadows website, Twitter, and Facebook are the best places to tune in if you want to find updates. But for now, feel free to check out the latest gameplay trailer for In the Shadows on the Playstation YouTube channel.
