Dragon Age Dreadwolf Rumored To Be One of Two Confirmed EA Games Releasing This Fiscal Year

May 8, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

It’s possible that Jeff is wrong and EA has a real surprise in the wings.

EA has revealed they are releasing two titles they have yet to announce for this financial year, and at least one person claims they know what one of those games are.

Much like for Japanese companies like Nintendo, Western companies like Electronic Arts have their financial year start at April 1 of the Roman calendar year, and then end at March 31 of the following year. The financial establishment has just chosen to offset their year for convenience; as they can plan out longer and better quality holidays if they don’t match their financial year with the calendar year.

In any case, a document released after EA’s latest earnings call revealed the two titles, which should come out on or before March 31, 2025. As reported by Video Games Chronicle, one of the two games is a partner game under the EA Originals label, and the other one is one of EA’s own IP.

The EA Originals line has not been around that long, but it’s already been something of a sore spot for the company. The idea behind it is quite noble for the notoriously unpopular game company – EA funds new game ideas, to be developed by external studios, and as we have seen, they can vary in scope and scale.

Among those games are the critically acclaimed It Takes Two, the recently released Zau: Tales of Kenzera, and two unfortunate projects; Immortals of Aveum and Wild Hearts.

Immortals of Aveum‘s poor performance in the market led to the recent furloughing of the employees of its developer, Ascendant Studios. Wild Hearts did pick up a fanbase with some Monster Hunter fans curious about an alternative from Team Ninja, but the title ultimately did not pick enough traction.

While these games had unfortunate fates, they were set on bigger expectations than other EA Originals. We don’t know if EA’s next project in this line will be another bigger budget project, or another smaller game that can earn them at least some prestige, if not blockbuster sales.

Jeff Grubb claims the other title is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which EA has been sharing limited information about. Grubb also shared the rumor that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is planned for release later this year, so he’s really mostly reiterating that earlier rumor.

But, we also have to point out that a job listing suggested that Bioware has another unannounced title in the works. Maybe EA has a real surprise on the way, since they were public about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf getting another preview this summer. That could be coming right in time for what was E3 season, this June.
