Dusk Golem seems to have some new rumors about Resident Evil.
As shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit by user Anthrax-Warhead, Dusk Golem posted this message on Discord:
“At this very second, I have no frame of reference of when RE9 is being announced. Could be this summer, could be later, the me of right now does not know specifics. I do know a couple years ago that the goal was to reveal the game this year and aim for a 2025 release, but I’ve been hearing murmurs the last few months that RE9 might’ve been internally delayed some for one reason or another.
Some may take that badly, but honestly that’s not even that unusual for this franchise, RE games more often than not hit some rocky point and get delayed some, some more severely than others. To see if those murmers end up true, but I’ve seen it suggested that another RE game may end up being announced and released first before RE9, but know this is not something I’ve heard concretely. It’s a thing I’ve been hearing I’m following and plan to ask about the next opportunity I get though to get more concrete word on it.
Just know that’s something I’ve been hearing murmers about from various sources. PART OF ME kinda wants it to be true though, since if that is true, I think the reveal of the RE game pushed forward to release before RE9 is pretty funny and would catch a lot of people off guard. To see what happens, though.”
The last Resident Evil title we saw release was the remake of Resident Evil 4 last year. Capcom’s beloved zombie shooting franchise has been on a roll in recent years, thanks to this round of modern remakes.
However, Capcom has also thought to make some original titles with big changes to the formula, perhaps as a long term strategy after they saw the success that the Resident Evil Revelations games found in making that switch from survival horror to action.
That strategy has led to one very famous and successful title, Resident Evil Village, and one less well known, and less regarded release, Resident Evil Resistance. Resident Evil Village is regarded as one of the best games of its generation, while Resident Evil Resistance was relegated to being the online component of their Resident Evil 3 remake.
Dusk Golem had shared the first rumors about Resident Evil Village, so they generally have a good track record on rumors for this particular franchise. We don’t know if this rumor will amount to anything we will see, of course, since they are so close to the source they seem to be reporting on insider information that won’t be relevant to gamers until they see any of those games get announced or released.
So we’ll just have to wait and see, but given the timing of this rumor, Dusk Golem is likely teasing a Capcom announcement for June, the month that used to be known for E3.
