Dungeon crawler games are very popular with gamers because of the variety and challenge that they can possess. These titles will have that and more! Let’s check out the best new dungeon crawler games of 2024.
Update: We will continue to update this list periodically throughout the year, so you will likely see some games removed or added. These games are not ranked in any particular order, as the focus here is to showcase titles we are excited to see hit the marketplace.
#10 Content Warning
If you’re looking for a unique multiplayer game that has some elements of a dungeon crawler, then you might find some fun with Content Warning. The game throws players into a world where they play with friends, striving to make it big online. Overall, the premise is rather simple as you’ll work with a group as you venture down into the depths below. Players are armed with some primitive gear like flashlights and a camera to explore and capture some scary monsters on film.
From there, you can upload the footage in hopes of raking in views. As you progress, you can upgrade your gear and continue exploring to find something spookier to film. It’s a wacky game that might prove too addictive to stop playing. Best of all, the game is readily available to pick up right now.
#9 Cryptmaster
No matter what world you’re in, words have power. The twist is that in Cryptmaster, they have much more power than you realize. The unique black & white dungeon crawler puts you in the role of four heroes who once upon a time saved the world. They literally died to protect it. However, someone has brought them back to life in a place that is now warped beyond what they know.
You’ll control these characters and use the power of words to help them get through each situation. Due to the literal word power of the game, every situation has different ways it can be solved depending on what words you type. So, feeling wordy?
#8 Last Epoch
If you’re looking for a dungeon crawler that’s all about creating the most epic character and class ever to take on all sorts of threats, both past, present, and future, Last Epoch is the title for you. In the game, your overall goal is to save a planet from destruction. The good news is that you have time travel abilities and can go to the past to get what you need to save your homeworld.
The bad news is that in the past, you’ll have to face literal gods, dark empires that aren’t happy with you, and other threats! Fun times. However, you’ll have over a dozen classes and well over 100 skills to pick and choose to make the character you need to take down everything in your path.
#7 Rotwood
Bet you never saw a dungeon crawler that looked like this before! In Rotwood, you’ll be put into a world that’s flooded with monsters, and you’re one of the people asked to take them out! Fun times for you. The good news is that it’s not impossible to do so, it’s just going to be a challenge, and you’ll have to get stronger along the way to make it all the way through this adventure.
The game even warns you that “button mashing” isn’t going to help you survive. You need to build your characters wisely and then send them into the foray with a plan so that everyone survives. Think you can make that happen?
#6 Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island
Well, that’s a long name for a game, wouldn’t you say? What does this thing think it is, an anime?
In the game, you’ll once again play Shiren and his pet ferret, Koopa. The wanderer has gotten a mysterious message from a girl who appears to be trapped on Serpentcoil Island, which itself is known for a treasure that is allegedly hidden within it.
Even though you’re defeated by the island monster initially, you won’t give up! You’ll work your way through the island’s many dungeons and gain the strength to save this girl. You can even find other players who have died in these dungeons and help them!
#5 Demon Spore
As we should all know by now, tempting fate by tampering with nature and the genetics we were born with will only lead to disaster. The people in Demon Spore didn’t listen to that message, and now they’re fighting for their lives!
They were supposed to create a special kind of livestock, but instead, they made a monstrous mass full of tentacles and other horrors that seeks to devour everything within the lab! Your only option is to use the scientific tools around you to cut these monsters down to size and survive from floor to floor.
Can you make it out alive/ You’re about to find out!
#4 Dread Pilots
You might not think that nightmares can reach out into the depths of space, but Dread Pilots will change that opinion quickly. In the game, you are a space pilot whose ship has ended up in The Dread. This place is full of big and small terrors, and the only goal within this place is to survive long enough to get a way out!
Fighting isn’t the best option if you don’t have the right tools on your ship. Think carefully about everything you do, and outfit yourself to take on all comers!
Fight it alone, or bring in other crew members to help you! It’s your journey, so make it one you don’t dread!
#3 The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Surprisingly, we have a new game for the Legend of Zelda franchise this year. This title is a bit different from previous games, as this time, Link is sitting this one out as a protagonist. Instead, we’re stepping into the role of Princess Zelda.
The story here is that Link once again managed to save Princess Zelda from the evil Ganon. However, during the process, Link gets sucked into a rift, one of several that have opened up over Hyrule. With the trusty Tri Rod that can duplicate objects, Princess Zelda will begin her adventure to save Link and heal the land of Hyrule. Also, if you’re familiar with The Legend of Zelda franchise, we’re sure there will be plenty of dungeons to explore and clear out.
#2 Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
Diablo IV might not be new, as the base game was released in 2023. However, this year will see the arrival of the expansion pack Vessel of Hatred. If you’ve been playing the game since its release, then you might be ready for some new content to be added to the mix. Vessel of Hatred looks to add a few notable additions to the gameplay to keep you logging into Diablo IV regularly.
Overall, the story is based around stopping the Prime Evil, Mephisto. This new expansion will introduce a new region to explore, focusing on an environment lush with dense jungles. Likewise, new enemies, dungeons to clear, and challenges can be expected. However, you will also find that Vessel of Hatred adds a new class called Spiritborn, which is described as the apex predator of the jungle. Here’s hoping this expansion meets players’ expectations when it drops into the marketplace.
#1 Hades II
We could put no other game at the top of this list. Supergiant Games did gamers a service when they made their original dungeon crawler set in the universe of Greek mythology, and Hades II will attempt to do things even better than that one!
In the game, you’ll play as the daughter of Hades, who has fallen victim to the god of time, Kronos. You’ll need to work your way through a vast world to vanquish the god’s forces and unlock new powers and abilities in the process. That includes learning magic from the witch Hectate!
Whether you succeed or fail, you will grow, and that’s what you must do to survive!
