Anime has been growing exponentially for the last several years, and in 2024, there will be several anime-style titles to enjoy!
Update: We will continue to update this list periodically throughout the year, so you will likely see some games removed or added. These games are not ranked in any particular order, as the focus here is to showcase titles we are excited to see hit the marketplace.
#19 Touhou Luna Nights
We know that Touhou Luna Nights has already come out, but this specifically is the PS5/PS4 version of the title. Just wanted to give you clarity on that.
Anyway, in the game, you play Sakuya, a maid to the head vampire, who is mysteriously sent to another world full of dangers…and left there. Uncertain of what’s going on, you’ll have to wander through this Metroidvania-style world and not only survive what’s thrown at you but uncover the truth!
Use Sakuya’s time-stop powers to get the upper hand on foes, and see the various nooks and crannies of this strange world to see what else can be unlocked.
#18 Europa
Not all anime titles are about saving the world. Instead, some are about going through the remains of a past one and attempting to learn the truth about what occurred there. In Europa, you’ll play Zee, an android who has somehow found himself upon this specific moon of Jupiter. However, it’s not a lifeless moon, oh no, it’s one that used to be home to a grand civilization. Yet, as you wander around, there’s no one there.
The more you travel, the more you’ll uncover about this place while also improving the various abilities that Zee has! What secrets are hidden upon this moon? There’s only one way to answer that!
#17 Freedom Planet 2
There are new dangers to face in Freedom Planet 2, as a dragon from the ancient past has arisen! With this new threat, you’d think the heroes from the original game would be ready to take it on at a moment’s notice, right? Except, they’re divided over what needs to be done!
That means you’ll need to choose the heroine that suits you and then travel across the world so you can save it in the way that you think is best! There are numerous modes within the title for gamers to enjoy, including getting to explore the world first and foremost or getting to the action via Classic Mode!
#16 GUNDAM BREAKER 4
There are many paths that anime games can take, and many of them simply wish to fulfill various fan wishes that the titles themselves can’t grant. For example, in GUNDAM BREAKER 4, your goal is to fight other Gundams, and then take the parts off of them so you can create your own personal one! That’s right; you’ll have the ability to create numerous Gundam models and then customize them with various parts and additions to ensure that yours is the best!
So, whether you want to recreate one from the various anime series or make something no one has seen before, you have the power!
#15 Fields of Mistria
Numerous anime are about “creating a new life for oneself” after various circumstances make that impossible in their old world. To that end, Fields of Mistria puts you in the position of a young man or woman who gets the chance to restart their life on a farm! You’re given a mass plot of land and are asked to both tend to it while also helping regrow the village it’s next to! That shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Naturally, this farming simulator with anime elements allows you to take things on at your own pace and in your own way. Oh, and if the “anime-style” elements aren’t obvious to you, you have numerous potential partners that you can be with!
#14 Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
Speaking frankly, it doesn’t get much more anime than Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. After all, it features a protagonist trying to save or doom the world, plenty of monsters to fight and team up with, various beings with divine powers trying to stop them, and so on! Yeah, that’s pretty anime, wouldn’t you say?
Jokes aside, the title is an overhauled version of the original version and features an entirely new storyline that will put even more depth into the RPG. So, hop into the game, make your choice on which path you wish to face, and see if it pays out in the end!
#13 Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO
If you love the Dragon Ball franchise, then you know it has a TON of video games that let you recreate your favorite moments from the various shows in the series. In Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, you’ll get arguably your best chance to have a blast as you have matches of all kinds with an incredibly deep roster.
Seriously, if you’re a fan of Dragon Ball, DBZ, Super, and possibly even GT, there are characters in the game that you’ll love playing as and squaring off against others with. There’s even an original part of the story mode where you can change canon events from the shows!
#12 Palworld
Platform: PC Xbox One XSX|S
Release Date: January 19, 2024 (early access)
I’m sure you’re familiar with Palworld by now. The game was quickly picked up by players worldwide and compared to the Pokemon franchise. Players are dropped into a world filled with these creatures, and it’s your job to survive. Roam the world, seek out food, hunt down these creatures, make them your own pals and build up a fort, create a factory, mine for valuable resources, build a ranch and farm; it’s ultimately your decision. With that said, the developers did release this through early access, and you’ll find the team continuing to add new content or features to the game as they work to release this title fully into the marketplace.
#11 Narin: The Orange Room
Something about anime titles that can’t be ignored is that they’re not afraid to push the boundaries of stories so that they can deliver something special. Narin: The Orange Room is another example of that.
The game focuses on Narin, who is a young girl who is trying to find her sister. What happened to her sister? Something within the school they go to has taken her, and when Narin goes to investigate, she gets caught in another dimension that appears at night!
Now, Narin will need to navigate the days and nights at her school to get the clues needed to find her sister and stop this place from taking anyone else.
#10 UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II SYS:CELES
Want to know how you’re dealing with an anime or an anime video game adaptation? You look at how long the title is and see if you can pronounce it in one breath.
UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II SYS:CELES is the latest entry in the hit franchise, and it’ll once again force you to fight for your life and the safety of those around you.
The perk of this title is that it will end the current storyline with the games and start a new journey. But will you survive long enough to see it? Choose your character, fight in the games’ multiple modes, and see how far you can get.
#9 ASTRA: Knights of Veda
The world is not as it should be. A terrible ruler is trying to crush everyone beneath his boot, and only a resistance can stop him.
However, when that resistance was formed, a “death tree” sprouted out of the ground, turned everyone into monsters, and now things are even WORSE than they were before! Good times.
In ASTRA: Knights of Veda, you’ll be a chosen warrior of the Goddess Veda, and you’ll need to use tactics and skills to get through this monstrous world, rid it of evil, and save the realm once and for all.
With multiple knights under your command, you have the ability to save the day! But can you?
#8 Rift of the NecroDancer
If you loved the previous entries in this series, including the one inspired by Hyrule, you’ll want to check out Rift of the NecroDancer. This spinoff focuses even more on the rhythm-based gameplay, as Cadence is thrust into the “modern world” via a rift and must fight to get back!
Oh, and she needs to close all the rest of the rifts, too. That’s important, we think.
With numerous modes dedicated to musical gameplay, you’ll have plenty to enjoy, including battling other players to see who is better in a jam session!
So crank up the volume and see if you can keep the beat!
#7 Synduality: Echo of Ada
Welcome to the end of the world! Well, one version of it, anyway. Synduality: Echo of Ada puts you in the future, where a poisonous rain has forced people underground, created monsters, and resulted in humans teaming up with AI just to survive.
You play a set of Drifters who are tasked with finding special crystals to help keep humanity afloat. But it’s not so simple when the monsters you’ve been avoiding appear in the tunnels you search through!
You’ll need to work together with your AI counterparts to learn the truth about the world and save humanity in the process! So, yeah, no pressure.
#6 Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash
Are you a fan of anime series getting video game adaptations? Good! Because Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash is the next title we’re discussing, and that’s exactly what this is.
The title is one of many games that take anime characters and put them into a fighting scenario. In this case, it’s a 2v2 battler where you’ll pick your characters and attempt to use their cursed techniques to win the day.
All the best characters from the series are here, and you’ll get to pick which one you want to play and then go to war with them.
But let’s be honest, we all know you’ll pick Gojo.
#5 Granblue Fantasy: Relink
Platform: PC PS4 PS5
Release Date: February 1, 2024
Well, Granblue Fantasy: Relink has “fantasy” in the title, so we’re pretty sure that makes it perfect for this list by default. Do we have to talk more about it? Oh, you want us to? Okay.
The game is a fantasy RPG title where you’ll be part of the Sky Realm. There is a legend of a mythical island that lies beyond the horizon, and many people are seeking it out. That includes you! You’ll grab a crew of players and characters and sail across the skies in search of adventure, treasure, and mystery as you seek out the island.
Will you be able to find your objective? Dive in and find out!
#4 Tekken 8
Platform: PC PS5 XSX|S
Release Date: January 26, 2024
Steam | PlayStation | Xbox
It’s time for your fist to meet fate. Tekken 8 has finally arrived, and with it comes the conclusion of a storyline nearly two decades in the making.
In the last title, Heihachi Mishima and his son Kazuya faced off for the last time and ended their bitter feud. But now, it’s time for Kazuya to face off against his own son, and Jin may be the only one who’s capable of putting his father down for good.
He’ll need help to stop Kazuya’s plan for world domination, including help from his mother. Will you be able to save the world? Or will you be the one that dooms it?
#3 Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy
Funnily enough, this franchise HAS been turned into an anime in the past, and maybe the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy will insight the need to make it an anime once again!
Styled like many anime, this trilogy of titles will take you to the courtroom and beyond to solve cases of the most dastardly sort. You’ll play Apollo Justice, Athena Cykes, and the legendary Phoenix Wright to determine who the culprit is and get your client a not-guilty verdict!
Look for clues when you’re not in court, then pick apart testimony to get more information and sus out the lies that are being said! Justice is in the palm of your hands, so point it out and shout, “OBJECTION!”
#2 Octopath Traveler 2
Yes, we know that Octopath Traveler 2 is already out for certain systems, but in 2024, it’ll be released on the Xbox console line, and we want to ensure that they know what they’re getting.
Unlike The Game Awards, we think this sequel to the hit Square Enix title was worthy of MANY award nominations and is easily one of the coolest RPGs you’ll play. With eight different protagonists with eight unique storylines, mixed with inventive turn-based combat that will push you to the limit, all the while having 2.5HD graphics, you get a game that can’t be put down.
So heads up, Xbox gamers, you got a fun one coming your way!
#1 Persona 3 Reload
Platform: PC PS5 XSX|S Xbox One PS4
Release Date: February 2, 2024
Steam | PlayStation | Xbox
There are many layers to the story of Persona 3 Reload. But don’t worry, we won’t spoil them for you. The main story focuses on the mysterious tower known as Tartarus and the Dark Hour that emanates from it. You are one of the few who can wander through this danger-filled hour and fight off the Shadows that lurk within it.
But there are other stories to enjoy. For example, there are social links that will help you learn more about the other characters in your world. Growing them will allow you to get different Personas to use in battle! Plus, you might just find a partner to share your life with.
