Underwater sections in most games are a slog. Super Mario Wonder, looking to avoid that feeling, introduces the wonderful Dolphin Kick.

Once you leave Pipe-Rock Plateau, you will enter the hub world for all of Super Mario Wonder. This place links to every other world in one way or another. Heck, it even has its own Wonder Seeds, Purple Coins, Badges, Shops, and Levels. You won’t have complete access to it at first, but there are things to do each time your travels take you back here.

‘Dolphin Kick 1’ is a Badge Challenge that will give you a safe environment to test out and mess around with the Dolphin Kick badge. This will likely become a staple Badge in your arsenal as it is one of the most effective ways to operate underwater. In this guide, we will try to help you obtain every collectible during the Badge Challenge.

How To Collect All 3 Purple Coins In ‘Dolphin Kick 1’

Like most levels, this stage has 3 Purple Coins. Unlike most levels up until this point, these coins are fairly difficult to nab. This is because you need to chase them. Throughout the course of the level, all 3 Purple Coins will race towards the end of the level. Once they get there, they will become inaccessible. It is up to you to catch up to them and grab them before they reach their goal.

This is easier said than done, and simply swimming after them is not enough to catch them. The last Purple Coin in particular is a menace and requires you to learn the level layout so you can take the most optimal route through the level. We have some tips to help you along the way.

Always Be Dolphin Kicking

As the name of the level implies, Dolphin Kicking is essential in this level. If you don’t Dolphin Kick, you will not catch any Purple Coins, let alone all three. To Dolphin Kick simply press ‘RB’ and your character will do an underwater dash. This can be used to swim faster, change directions more effectively, break blocks, and even attack enemies if you time it right.

Don’t Follow The Coins

This might seem like an odd tip since following the coins is the natural response when chasing. Sadly, even with Dolphin Kick, you are not fast enough to catch them if you follow them. You need to get tricky. There are multiple points during the level where you can save time by cutting corners and taking slight detours.

The first happens after the level starts. You will head to your right, then the course will go up. Once it forces you to go right again, this is where you can save time. You will see rotating blocks. The coins will take a zig-zaggy path through this section. What you want to do is ignore all of that and stick to the bottom of the screen. This is far faster and you will very quickly catch up and grab the coin you are hunting.

Another time-saving section is immediately after the above section. You will head down a shaft before going right. If you stick to the far right when going down and then cut your descent as you go right, you will save a few seconds, letting you catch up.

Avoid Obstacles

Finally, you need to avoid obstacles. This requires patience and practice as the level will warp and change as you go through. You want to avoid every roadblock so you maintain your momentum. The more efficient you are at avoiding obstacles, the better.

Flag & Wonder Seed

Once you have all 3 Purple Coins, you are free to head to the level exit. As always, getting to the top of the flagpole is ideal as this is a tracked collectable. Jump in the water and touch the flower. This will spawn two blocks. Hop onto them. Perform a dash jump with a spin to reach the top of the pole and complete the level.
