It’s been a weird last few days in the world, and it’s been punctuated by Elon Musk, the current owner of Twitter, doing something so mind-numbingly dumb that people can’t help but make fun of it. We speak, of course, of him going and changing the Twitter logo from the legendary blue bird to an “X.” Just an “X,” not even a special “X,” as people have found out, but just a random version of the letter that he found. Why did he do that? Well, he’s Elon Musk, and he does what he wants, which Kingdom Hearts picked up and ran with.
Why? Because a large contingent of their fans decided that if he was going to use the letter “X” as if it was a powerful entity, they would showcase the “other evil organization” that also felt that way: Organization 13. Yep, the legendary villains from Kingdom Hearts that all had an “X” in their names to symbolize their “rebirths” into Nobodies.
We won’t break down all the complicated lore of the games to explain why their leader, Xehanort, liked the letter “X,” but it did have to deal with power. So fans of the game who use the social media platform decided to change their profile pictures to resemble Organization 13 and thus pledge their “Loyalties” to the “X.”
Others took it one step further and took the Organization’s looks and “added to them” to flesh out how stupid the whole situation with Twitter is.
These are just some of the memes players have used to make fun of Elon Musk’s decision. A decision that honestly makes no sense other than for him to drive more people away from the platform. Not unlike many other times since his reign began, many people have threatened to leave Twitter because of the various restrictions that Musk has imposed upon its users. Plenty of those restrictions go for people who don’t pay for verification, which was another unpopular decision by Musk.
For the gaming community to rise up against him is hilarious as it shows just how dumb the change is that it can be given a hilarious connection to a beloved video game series. With it, it shows how uncreative Elon Musk is, which makes the joke all the funnier.
Regardless, Kingdom Hearts fans are having fun with this, and that’s good because they likely aren’t getting the next mainline entry in the series for some time. Something they’re familiar with.
