Given all the big events and showcases that happened last month, it was inevitable that several new games would be announced. But what were the biggest of the bunch? We got you covered. These aren’t in any particular order. We just wanted to show you the new games that will arrive soon enough.
#10 Wanderer
Why not start off with a VR title? Many VR games were shown off in June, but one that caught many people’s eyes was Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate. It’s a remake of a previous VR title, improving the original title in many ways.
In the game, you’ll be a time traveler who inhabits people’s bodies to live out their lives and uncover the “mysteries of time.” If your mind is flashing back to a certain TV series, you’re not alone.
The game prides itself on its immersion and showing you these different people and places through your perspective so you can interact with them on various levels.
So dive in and see where time takes you.
#9 Resistor
Imagine a future where corporations have taken over, and citizens are just trying to survive underneath their boot. Oh, wait, we probably don’t have to imagine that hard, right? Anyway, Resistor is a game about a future where corporations are controlling cities, and those on the outside who want a better life have to go through a certain racing competition to get that chance.
Enter Aster, whose family wants nothing more than to live in one such city so their mother can get the medical attention they need.
But in this open-world RPG, you’ll find that capitulating to the system is harder when you know the truth about what’s going on behind the scenes.
#8 Jumanji: Wild Adventures
We’re not sure who asked for this game or why it’s coming out years after the first two movies hit the box office, but Jumanji: Wild Adventures is indeed coming.
In the game, you’ll get to play alongside three friends, each of you taking the role of one of the “game characters” from the movies.
Together, you’ll need to brave through new areas to find the “Jaguar’s Eye” and use it to get home.
You can try to play it alone, or you can work with others to escape the video game’s clutches. Just remember, when the drums sound, something bad is about to happen!
#7 Star Ocean the Second Story R
It wouldn’t be a month of gaming without someone coming forward and announcing a remake or a remaster, right? In this case, we’re talking about Star Ocean the Second Story R, a remaster of the beloved Square Enix title.
As the name states, this is the second entry in the franchise and the one that many people feel is the best of the line. As for what’s being “remastered,” that would be the visuals, as you’ll quickly notice they’re in the 2.5-HD style that Square Enix has been using for many old-school titles recently.
The game has a deep story with two protagonists to choose from. So play both sides and see how the story changes!
#6 Project Loki
What happens when you get ex-devs from Blizzard, Riot Games, and Bungie together? You get a MOBA, but one that has a “shooter soul,” also known as Project Loki.
According to them, it’s a “battleground” where 4-player teams must think fast and work together to take out rival groups. Unlike other MOBAs, this project seems to work just fine with a faster pace, likely meaning that game rounds will go much faster.
One thing the team noted was that they wanted to make this a truly “deep game” so that you could play it for “thousands of hours.”
We’ll have to wait and see if that promise comes true.
#5 The Precinct
Typically, video games put you on the “other side of the law” so that you can attempt to escape the cops or “deal with them” when the situation arises. But in The Precinct, you’ll be on the side of the law and trying to make your city better.
You’ll play a rookie who has been assigned to a squad. It’s your job to keep the peace, and you’ll need to do all you can to make that happen. The city is truly alive, and procedurally generated crime will always happen.
Do what you can to stop it; along the way, you might discover the truth about your father’s murder.
#4 Jujustu Kaisen Cursed Clash
There are many anime in the world today that are shaking things up and bringing the right kind of attention to the genre. One is about to get their first console video game via Jujustu Kaisen Cursed Clash. In it, you’ll take on other players or the game itself in 2v2 contests featuring the roster of the anime.
You’ll need to learn how to use your “Cursed Techniques” to take down your foes. But you’ll also need to work perfectly with your partner character to unleash combo moves and really bring the pain against your foes.
Plus, there’s a story mode you can enjoy too!
#3 Sand Land
We’ve seen plenty of anime get developed into video games in the past. But with Sand Land, it’s a bit different, as this is a manga adventure that is being developed into a video game! Oh, and it’s a story created by Akira Toriyama. You’ve heard of him, right?
Regardless, you’ll play as a “Fiend Prince,” known as Beelzebub. He seems nice. You’ll lead a smart party of adventurers into the vast desert to try and find a mythical spring that lies somewhere within.
On top of that, you can build a city in the desert after you find people! You can make it into your own kingdom if you desire.
#2 Detective Pikachu Returns
It’s time to break out that coffee because everyone’s favorite old-sounding Pokemon is back! Detective Pikachu Returns brings back the wise-cracking, coffee-drinking, intrepid detective alongside his partner Tim to solve new mysteries in Ryme City!
As you’ll see in the trailer above, the time difference between the first and second games means numerous newer Pokemon will become part of your adventures. You’ll need to work alongside them and Tim to determine the newest causes of problems in the city.
Given what happened in the first game, what could happen this time around? No matter what, Detective Pikachu will need some strong coffee to get through this!
#1 Sonic Superstars
If you’re a fan of Sonic The Hedgehog, then you’ll know that until last year, it was hard to get a good game made with him that wasn’t fan-made. But then, Sonic Team pulled it together, and SEGA decided to continue that trend by announcing Sonic Superstars!
The game will take Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy Rose back to their 2D roots and give them an all-new adventure to enjoy. Every stage you’ll play in the game is different, and each character will have special abilities you can use to get around.
Just as important, you can do a 4-player co-op for the first time! Oh, and there’s a LEGO crossover too.
