Dark Souls 3 Will Run At 60FPS On PC

March 11, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Dark Souls 3 will not be frame-capped to 30FPS.

PC gamers worried about the quality of Dark Souls 3 on Windows can rest easy. Today, the game’s publisher Bandai Namco announced on Twitter that the upcoming hack-and-slash action RPG will run at a full 60FPS on the PC. It made the statement in response to speculation that the PC version of the game would, like the first game, be locked at 30FPS.

“Forget what you’ve heard,” stated the publisher on the game’s official account. “Dark Souls 3 will run at 60FPS on the PC.”

The first game ran at a locked 30FPS on the PC until modders were able to dig into the files and force it to run at a higher resolution and unlock its framerate limiter. Dark Souls 2 had no such limitation, but that didn’t stop speculation about the upcoming title.

Rumors began at SegmentNext when word surfaced from a supposedly official source that the game would be capped at the low framerate, which is unacceptable to most PC gamers—especially those with high-end hardware.

The issue with capped framerates has become such a sore point with PC gamers fed up of poor console ports that The Framerate Police is one of the most popular Curators on Steam. The group was established by John Bain, better known as TotalBiscuit. His goal is simple: to warn customers about frame-locked games on the PC.

Dark Souls 3 will be out on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this April.
