NBA 2K23 Introduces Eras Quick Play In Patch 4.0 For Season 4

January 10, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

2K Games has continued to provide long term support, but only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

2K Sports and Visual Concepts have released the notes for current gen patch 4.0 of NBA 2K23.

This patch comes alongside the start of season 4, will be arriving this January 13, 2023, Friday, at 8AM / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST. The big addition coming alongside the usual fixes is Eras Quick Play, a new mode coming with Season 4.

Eras Quick Play will be playable from the Play Now Menu, and it’s one for fans of classic NBA. It’s a quick play mode where you can play the league’s historic matchups. If you’re old enough to remember Jordan vs Bird: One on One, or the even older One on One Dr. J vs Larry Bird , on 8-bit platforms, you can now play matchups like that, this time on a far more realistic level. You will also be able to add presentation overlays and filters so that your game can take on the look of classic NBA on TV from those eras.

2K Games have been diligent in updating NBA 2K23, but only if you are playing on the current generation of consoles. PC players have unhappily and publicly noted that 2K Games only served them a version of the game based on what is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

In the meantime, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players have been enjoying the latest updates that 2K has been putting on the game, which has been slowly molding it into a somewhat different game as well. Last October, the Season 2 patch came with changes to core game modes, including MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and The W.

Jumping back to update 4.0, 2K is updating player models and likenesses for a significant number of players. This includes updating the tattoos for current players like Oshae Brissett, Torrey Craig, and Damian Lillard. It also includes improved likenesses for historic players, including Michael Curry, Greg Foster, Jason Kidd, and Eddie Jones.

Other changes coming with update 4.0 include stability fixes for MyNBA, MyNBA Online, and The W. It’s good to see 2K Games and Visual Concepts commit to keep updating NBA 2K23 for players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

However, it seems that this continued support comes at the expense of players who are still on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and perplexingly, PC players as well. If 2k Games can’t commit to better treatment for these players for the rest of the year, we hope they can do better for the next game.
