Epic Games has announced today Founder’s Packs for Paragon, the studio’s upcoming free-to-play MOBA for the PC and PlayStation 4, will have its Founder’s Packs go on sale on March 14. Players will be able to get in on the action starting March 18 when Early Access season begins.

The game’s Creative Director Steve Superville revealed that every playable Hero in Paragon will always be free.

“Paragon is designed so that all players can compete and win without ever having to spend money,” said Superville. “All Heroes are free, and cards can only be earned by playing the game. The game will never be pay-to-win, meaning we will never sell gameplay-affecting items. We will sell cosmetic items (skins, emotes), boosts and other convenience items, along with Paid Early Access. We’re taking this approach because we believe that competitive games need to be fair for all players.”

Epic Games states that Paragon is designed so every player can compete on an even playing field without having to spend money. Heroes area free, and cards, which allow you to customize your Hero, can only be acquired by playing the game. There’s no way to buy them as the game isn’t designed to be pay-to-win. They will never sell any gameplay-affecting items. The studio says that the only items they intend to sell are cosmetic items, such as skins and emotes, and boosts that boost the amount of experience you gain while leveling up outside of matches.

“We’re taking this approach because we believe that competitive games need to be fair for all players,” stated Epic Games.

So what’s the deal with Founder’s Packs? According to Epic Games, the Founder’s Pack will allow players to join the game early on during its Early Access period and get skins, boosts, and other cosmetic items that are normally unlocked just by playing. Players with Early Access will not have their accounts and progress wiped once the game is really out. If you choose not to buy a Founder’s Pack, you can play Paragon for free during Beta Weekends.

Additionally, there are Challenger Packs that go for $59.99 and Master Packs, priced at $99.99. Each includes a huge number of skins, unlockable items, boosts, a unique skin, and a Founder’s Pack to give to a friend. Further details will be released soon.

You can sign up for the beta right now at Paragon.com and play the game for free this summer. In the meantime, you can check out some previously released gameplay footage.
