Daum Games is launching its next-gen take on the MMO genre, Black Desert Online, today in North America and Europe. The servers, which are currently offline for maintenance and last minute checks, are set to go live in just a couple hours.
Black Desert Online boasts some of the deepest character customization ever seen in an MMORPG, allowing players to design their characters to look like anyone from Gandalf the Grey to Michael Jackson. It offers eight playable classes at launch with a reactive combat system quite unlike other massively multiplayer games currently out.
The game can be best described as an open-world sandbox MMORPG without any fast travel option. The world’s vast, and players will have to travel from place to place on foot or on a mount. There are deep crafting, trading, and social systems, and the game offers reactive, action-based combat that makes it more akin to a fighting game or a brawler than a typical MMO.
If you’re interested in picking up the game, you can buy it directly from the official site. Like Guild Wars and its sequel, there’s no monthly subscription fee.

If you’re not sold, you can always listen to “Chocolate Rain” living meme Tay Zonday narrate one of the game’s trailers with his luscious, deep voice.
