2023 is looking to be quite the filled year of incredible video game releases. One of those releases slated to launch in early 2023 is Atomic Heart. This comes from developers Mundfish, who has been teasing this release for a good while now. Now, if you’re not familiar with Mundfish, then that wouldn’t come to much of a surprise. This will be the developer’s first release, as the studio only started back in 2017 with a small team of four developers. Their initial goal was to deliver a video game that could rank alongside their personal favorites like Doom, Fallout, and Bioshock.
You can certainly see the inspiration from these games with their upcoming Atomic Heart release. Since 2017, the development team has continued to expand as they pressed forward in delivering the game into the marketplace. We’re still a little ways off before the game’s upcoming launch, but that hasn’t stopped the development team from providing information about what exactly players can expect.
When Does Atomic Heart Release?
As mentioned, the development studio was formed in 2017, but Atomic Heart didn’t really get off the ground until 2018. Since then, the studio has pressed forever to deliver the game into the marketplace. We’ve been waiting on the game to make its official release date for a while, and it was looking like the title might have made its way out into the public this year. It was in February of 2022 that the developers unveiled a trailer hinting at a launch before 2022 wrapped up.
But in November of this year, the developers revealed that Atomic Heart would not release until February 21, 2023. This should hopefully allow the developers enough time to work through the game and ensure it’s ready for the public. Meanwhile, for those who haven’t been paying too much attention to this project, we do have a premise breakdown which you can read here. But, overall, the game is tossing players into an alternate reality where the Soviet Union continued to thrive.
What resulted was a technological boom with advancements being made in robotics. Humanity has since used these robots to aid them in their daily routines. Taking the role of a KGB agent, you’re tasked with venturing into a manufacturing plant that has gone silent. It’s here that you uncover that the robots have turned on humans and are beginning their takeover. As a result, you’ll need to uncover what actually happened at this plant and prevent the robots from carrying out their plans.
Again, the development team is releasing Atomic Heart on February 21, 2023. While the game was pushed into the upcoming year, it will be available on multiple platforms as a cross-generation release. When Atomic Heart drops, you’ll be able to pick up a copy of the game on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the Xbox Series X/S platforms. For now, you can check out the game trailer in the video embedded down below.
