Assassin’s Creed Mirage Rumored To Be Planned For August 2023

December 2, 2022 by Ryan Parreno

Hopefully this rumored release date isn’t just another mirage itself.

We have a source claiming that Ubisoft is planning to finish and release Assassin’s Creed Mirage by August 2023.

Initially revealed in September 10, 2022, Assassin’s Creed Mirage brings the franchise back to the Middle East in the world of Islamic Iraq, at the height of the Caliphate’s reign in the 9th century. Playing Basim Ibn Ishaq, the entire game is conceived as a tribute to the original Assassin’s Creed, it promises a back to basics playstyle, and a narrative that takes players to the origins of the Assassins, in their very own birthplace, Alamut.

While our source could not verify specific reasons for the delay from their sources, this rumor comes in context of reported issues with the game’s studio.

The lawsuit between Ubisoft employees and higher ups is a matter of public record. More specifically, there were earlier reports that the studio was facing issues with other Assassin’s Creed games. Assassin’s Creed Project Red, a different game planned after Assassin’s Creed Mirage, recently saw many of its staffers leave the project, after allegations of abuse surfaced among its leadership as well. It’s possible some of these people were also working on Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Alternately, there are potentially people who were finishing Assassin’s Creed Mirage who now have to also do work on Assassin’s Creed Project Red to cover for attrition.

On the other hand, there may be less serious reasons for the delay. Of course, game development continues to be affected adversely by the pandemic, as well as the knock on effects of global economic issues. If the game industry had benefited from people staying at home in the earlier phases of the pandemic, now, we are seeing games releasing in imperfect states, because they cannot be delayed.

If this is a case where Ubisoft still has the privilege to push back the release date of their high profile games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage so they can avoid the problems faced by Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and more recently, The Callisto Protocol, that would be a positive for them, their staffers, and their fans.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is apparently planned to be a smaller project than most Assassin’s Creed  games are nowadays. If this were the case, it would make sense for Ubisoft to be able to target older generation consoles alongside the current generation. It also makes sense that they can afford to delay the game, since they have less money riding on a smaller budget project.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is planned for release for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC.
